Debating which 22lr for the wife

I am looking into 2 gun for the wife. Either the ruger 22/45 mark III or the s&w 22A. what are the advantages and disadvantages of both guns?
    thanks in advance

The 22/45 is very similar to a Browning Buckmark. We went shooting with another couple, my wife likes our 22/45 but preferred their Buckmark. His wife likes their Buckmark but preferred our 22/45 so you might also include Buckmarks in your search.

Have you looked into the Ruger SR22 instead of the S&W 22A? The SR22 comes with two grips, small and large, to fit different shooters. We haven't taken it to the Range yet so I can't say what the wife thinks about it yet.

Bottom line is always to let her check them out to see which one she prefers and rent them if possible before buying.

My wife shot my 22/45 slab-side blued model and loved it over my Single Six she originally claimed. She hates loading the revolver and says the sights on the 22/45 are perfect.

... So I gave it to her and got myself a Target stainless...

The 22/45 is a very simple gun to operate and shoot. That's what I would go with.

I just took my SR22 to the range today and it worked flawlessly. I would definitely recommend this pistol for women or children because of its small size and ease of use. The slide racks back so smoothly. I shot probably close to 500 rounds today and the only problem I had was a weak round not being able to blow back the slide far enough to pick up the next round. I blame it on a duddy round. The SR22 is also very easy to disassemble. It is so small and easily carried if she wanted. I think the SR22 is turning out to be a very good little plinker. very fun to shoot! and i was getting nice groups at 20-25 feet or so.
              I like guns.

Well I ended up buying her the mark iii 22/45. Have to wait for my 30 days dros to be over so I can Dros this one. Also they had to order it.. Looked at the Sr22 and It is too small for her.

Great choice! But why not have HER get HER hsc, then have HER dros it, and you simply just pay for it? That way it technically is "HERS"

Yes. Besides that: a) then you are not restricted from buying a firearm for 30 days; b) she will have learned the subject matter contained on the (easy) HSC test.

The 22/45 is a fabulous pistol. I am surprised that you thought that the SR22P was too small for her.
