Scope or Red dot sight for Ruger Hunter

I have Ruger Hunter and although its original fiber optics sights are pretty good I really want to install something that can help me on the longer ranges.

Could you please advice me what should I go with: Red Dot sight or Some 1-4x scope? And why?

Any particular sights/scopes that you can recommend would help a lot too.

I have an Aimpoint Red Dot Sight on my Mark III Hunter and really like it. No magnification. I don't fire at sufficient distance to merit a scope, but your mileage may very. The gun is scary accurate with a red-dot sight.

I had to Ruger Competition with a 2x Luepold. Nice setup buy too heavy for the wife. Traded it for a marlin 39A......thats too heavy for the wife. Hahaha Guess I'll have to shoot it

Do you hunt with it? If so then I would say a simple light scope like the BSA 2x20 pistol scope would do you well.
Target shooting then I would think you could go either way. Best of luck though.

If you focus on longer range like somewhere over 50 yards then I would recommend a scope.
