welding, coupling, or threading 2 OEM barrels into one solid barrel?

i need a barrel length of over 30-34 inches and i know this can be done for about $500 if a gunsmith were to do it. however would it be cheaper to buy a 2nd OEM barrel and have it welded, coupled, or threaded to be one solid barrel extension? would this be considered a suppressor? its not just a hollow aluminum tube that's attached. does anyone see any issues with this?

if this cant be done, what about making a 10-16 inch flash hider that extends to the M200 muzzle brake? at least this way it has holes or vents to let the gas out? i guess i would also have to create vents underneath the M200 barrel shroud too to let the gas out?

im looking to buy a bolt action Marlin XT-22 or a Savage Mark II to fit inside my M200 Intervention and i need both barrels to line up perfectly to the tip of the M200 muzzle. without the 2nd barrel attachment, its going to be too short and the bullet can bounce around the M200 barrel

are barrel extensions legal? i need a 10-16 inch barrel extension without creating a suppressor. how would a gunsmith legally do this?

Welding/coupling two barrels is not feasible.

Not going to happen, order a new barrel in the length you need.

that has got to be the worst idea I have heard in a while. You want to take two barrels and weld them together to create a longer barrel?

1 the heat from welding will distort the barrels
2 you will never be able to weld them together accurately (alignment)
3 the rifling will not match
4 you will not get good penetration of the weld through the barrel

How old are you and what type of training and education makes you think your a gunsmith?

        Safety first
Buy a longer barrel do not try to weld them together

          Are we serious here?

Well to give you a real answer. The longest blank I know of is Green Mountains. They have a 30" blank. You would still need to attach to the action and ream the chamber. Not an easy or cheap job. But I don't understand what you mean about the round bouncing around in the barrel. First I don't think it is going to bounce. Folks have used inserts in rifles for years to shoot smaller rounds. I remember seeing a .22 insert for 45LC revolvers years ago. Second even if it did touch the barrel I don't see how a lead .22 @1150fps is going to damage a barrel.
If you still want to do a weld up look for a .22 smooth bore barrel. They do make them. Not to be rude but this sounds like a foolish project.

You also need to look into how much you arr going to be slowing the round down with that much barrel. 22lr does not have that much powder. Or are you looking at 22 mag?

I hate to say it, but I agree with the above statements, but I don't agree with the rude remarks.
I was wondering why you need such a long barrel.
I agree you would be much better off buying a new barrel for the reasons noted above.

yes, they would be legal. How is it legal? Dont put baffles in it and make it a suppressor, thats how!

im not a gunsmith. what made you think im a gunsmith? im 31 and still new to guns which is why im asking these stupid questions so i can be corrected accordingly.

i posted welding, coupling OR threading. you say welding is a bad idea, what about threading it instead?

yes i will buy a longer barrel and have my gunsmith machine it to fit.

yep i was referred to gmriflebarrel.com(Green Mountain) from rimfirecentral to buy blank barrels. ive already emailed GM if they have anything over 36 inches.

yep already contacted Green Mountains on the longest blank they have. i can just settle for 28-30 inches and just cut down the M200 barrel.

i mean the potential of the bullet bouncing around the M200 barrel since the bolt action im buying will likely have a stock barrel to be less than 20 inches long. i still have the extra 16 inches or so from the M200 hollow barrel.

not sure if youre referring to putting a .22 bolt action into a m200 dress up kit is foolish or welding/threading 2 barrels together is foolish?

im not too concerned about accuracy or performance. i want to see if this dress up kit will work with a .22LR bolt action. shooting 25 yards is fine with me.

what do you mean by 22 mag? 22 magnum?

Defcon is working on a number of .22LR conversions where the gun is going into a much larger and longer chassis, resulting in his need for long barrels.
Defcon, think about just using a long sleeve that fits over the barrel.
That way you do not have alignment issues and can make the lengths you want cheap and easy.

I am pleased to see people trying to make their own stuff and asking questions about how best to do it.

                              thanks

i bought a $40 36 inch aluminum hollow solid tube with no baffles with a diameter of 5/8 that can sleeve over the .22 barrel. the muzzle of the M200 can slide right in to help keep the barrel/tube straight. even though it has no baffles, im worried about this tube decreasing the db levels.

ill shoot a quick video or take pictures tonight to show you guys what i mean.
