Best deal on a Ruger 10/22?

I've been surfing the 'net, looking in stores, etc., trying to find the best price for a bare-bones walnut stock 10/22. So far I'm seeing it in the ballpark of $225-$250. So let me put the question to you, fellow SoCal gun enthusiasts. Has anyone come across a lower, better deal anywhere? I'd really appreciate hearing about it.

Well you just missed Turner's Ruger Days sale where you could have picked up a standard 10/22 Carbine with the wood stock for $199.98

The Ruger site just says hardwood for the basic 10/22's with wood stocks. The Sporter model has an American Walnut stock. http://www.ruger.com/products/1022Sporter/models.html

+1 on Turners even though I dont live in SoCal. Im jealous you guys have that store. What is on "sale" here is probably the regular price over there.

Yeah, I saw that Turner's ad the day it ended and I couldn't get out there.
American Gun Works sounds like it's worth a call-- and Sports Authority. I didn't know they carried guns. Thanks for those leads.

SoCal Bob, thanks for the clarification. The Sporter sounds like what I was looking for; not sure what "hardwood" is exactly, or if the difference is that great. I'm just looking for a long-lasting reliable .22, not an heirloom.

i got a 6 digit serial # 10/22 for 80.( in not so good shape with a birch stock)

if used is an option i would look on the rimfirecentral forum market place, you should be able to find a nice walnut maybe even tiger striped for at or around your price range

I can think of 2 local (to me, not to you... sorry) places that have the standard one (wood) for $199 everyday price.

Just picked mine up today from turners got the synthetic stock with fiber optic sights. I was pleased to find out it also came with a rail and a cable lock

Sportsmans warehouse had the synthetic on sale for $189 a while back. I'd keep an eye on the classifieds. I got an unfired (several year old) 10/22 for $140 with some ammo.

Sometimes they go on sale at Big5 for $199. You might want to ask for the sale price, sometimes if you ask for the sale price they will just give it to you at that price even if its not on sale currently.
