Ruger 10/22 Rear sight removal?

I'm having a helluva time getting the sights off of my ruger 10/22 to install this archangel marauder kit.

any tips on how to get this thing out? I've pretty much destroyed it already trying to tap it out from left to right (while staring down bore direction)

any tips?

Bigger hammer. Mine took a couple good wacks to move it. You need to support the barrel well, an extra set of hands helps.

yeah no go. they seem pretty much impossible to remove.

maybe better to just buy a whole new barrel instead

The barrel has to supported so it does not move at all when hitting the punch.
This job really does need a second set of hands.
A brass punch won't do it, use a steel one with a couple wraps of electric tape around the end so you don't scratch the barrel.

New Ruger barrels are usually sold with sights on them, so you have to get it off.

If you've already hammered it to oblivion go ahead and dremel a slot across it. This will let it collapse in upon itself when you break out the hammer again.

Try not to touch the barrel with the spinny part.
