    S&W 617 Jams?

I am interested in purchasing a 617 but have seen some disturbing videos on the web and read some posts on other sites where the owners complained of ballooning shells causing the cylinder to jam. As the gun is more expensive than other 22's I would prefer not to buy an unreliable gun... Any thoughts would be appreciated

I've had mine for two months now. Great pistol, NO jams. Lots of fun to shoot. No regrets at all, would highly recommend. Wish I had bought it years ago.

That is good to hear. I really like the way the 617 looks and feels.

Mine works flawlessly. I've had it about 5 months.
the ONLY thing about it, is that it tends to lead the frame around the barrel. I keep my pistol extremely clean so it hasn't caused a problem. However if you let it build up, it might impede the cylinder from rotating. This would probably take 1000 rounds without cleaning or scraping it off before it becomes a problem.

Also, ejection gets a little hard after about 100 -250 rounds. A quick swab of the cylinders makes it right.

The video you saw on the web(youtube, I know the one you're talking about) is an anomaly.

Its a fantastic pistol, with a smooth trigger, exceptionally high quality, and accurate. Its worth the money.

EDIT: oh and it really benefits from some new, larger grips.

Make sure you keep the chambers clean and oil free. Mine has worked great.

Get it and don't worry. I've had mine for 5 years, never had any issue. Except empty boxes of federal 550

It's not the cheapest 22 out there, but it's a lot of fun. I have no regrets from buying one.

The only thing I don't like about it is that the rear notch is a bit shallow, but if I ever get a bit of gumption I could just get a new blade. I'm just so very lazy.

Mine has been marginal at best:

Had mine for several years. One of my favorites.Never had a problem.Usually shoot a couple hundred rounds at a time.Do clean it thoroughly after. Some ammo is much dirtier than others.

The 617 is arguably the best .22 revolver currently made. Ten shots medium frame S&W manufactoring. The 617 is on my short list.

I am also interested in this in a 6" version but I'm doing a lot of reading before I plop down $700 on a .22LR anything.
