    S&W 15-22 vs Sig 522

(I did a forum search to see if this has been posted up, and I'm sure it has, but I did not run across it. So if it is a beat to death debate, I apologize in advance).

I recently had a chance to finally check both of these out in a store. Both seem fairly similar both in price and feel.

I will say that the Sig seems a little less cheap, in a plasticky sense. It seemed a tiny bit higher quality. I personally liked the ergonomics of the 15-22 though.

In any case, I am curious as to if there is a consensus as to which is better? Is either more accurate? Is either more reliable in terms of feeding cheap 22lr ammo.

Or are they about the same. Opinions would be appreciated, especially by people who have owned both.

I'd say of the popular tacticool 22s these two are on top of the pack... I for one don't understand peoples qualms with the mp feeling "cheap" I think its extremely well thought of on sw part to make a polymer AR clone in 22... Knowing small rimfire charges won't hurt the weapon plus creating a light and affordable firearm... Which is pretty much an exact clone of an AR15 accepting the same parts and accessories same break down design... So with that being said its the reason I bought one and I really like it... I however also plan on buying a sig522 they seem like a lot of fun to shoot and I'm on a .22 kick lately and owning both is gonna be awesome... I say if you can only have one get the one you like the feel and the look of the most and the one that will accessorize to your liking.. I don't think you'll regret either

I was at Big5 this past weekend, the Sig522 was marked at $429, has the sights installed. There is a $10 coupon posted in Calguns too. Best deal I have seen.

If you want a .22 AR that feels substantial then the HK416 is your gun. It actually feels better in my hands than some of the 556/223 ARs out there. But the gun is usually about $520 in local stores. With tax and DROs you are looking at $600 OTD.

I don't know. $600 is getting up there in price.

I was hoping closer to $400.

When I handled a 15-22, I wasn't really impressed. I got to shoot one, however, and my opinion of the rifle was much improved. It had a nice trigger, was plenty accurate and reliable, and had a solid feel to it. IIRC, you just have to remember to stagger the rounds as you load them.

I still prefer my Sig 522, however. It feels even more solid, has an even better trigger, and is just as accurate and reliable. Plus (and this is a biggie in my book) it uses Black Dog mags. I'd get a 522 over a 15-22 ten times out of ten, but I'd be thrilled to have a 15-22 as well.

              SIG 522----it doesn't feel like an AR(that may be it's best point)--very
accurate and for me at least (it shoots any 22LR including Rem GBs).
Also the S&W was plagued with the OOB explosions---assume this has been fixed.Mine has been totally reliable but I did have to replace my "E"
clips. You can't really go wrong with one or the other---I think the SIG
looks better but that is somewhat meaningless in the real world. Pete

              top is the 522

bottom is the big brother in 556---it is totally reliable also--the Swiss
style folding stock is the best out there--rock solid! Can be had on the 522,also

I have handled the S@W and shot the Colt all I can say is I would spend the extra $$$ to build a real AR with a 22 LR upper.

I like the MP15-22 for it's simplicity and low weight. It's compatible with all AR stocks, triggers, sights...etc. Plus it's a tackdriver.

Out of the two I would go with the Sig. I had one and loved it, will be replacing it once I have more spending money. I sold it to finish off my dedicated .22LR AR. Which I enjoy even more. Spikes lower, CMMG Upper, tweaked to my liking.

My 15-22 is much more fun to shoot than my 522. The 15-22 more closely mimics my ARs, which is the reason I purchased it. However, my 522 is a bit more accurate than the 15-22, which is no slouch in the accuracy department.

I debated both guns for a month. Finally 1 day I went into a shop determined to buy 1 of them. I went with the 15/22, because they had the MOE. But I've shot my friends 522, I like it as much as my S&W. You can't go wrong either way.

The 15/22 seems to jam or "stovepipe" an empty casing less often with AR-style-specific .22 LR ammunition...while others like a Ruger 10/22 don't seem to care and are fine with the general purpose stuff. It has something to do with how quickly the powder burns, I think. I'm not sure why it matters but it does.

                          That's been my experience, anyway.

                            522

                            Have worked a friend's 15-22. Meh.

Own the 522 Swat Commando. Absolutely Love it. Did a Run'N'Gun 2 weeks ago. About 500 rounds thru it that day. Not a single issue. Built solid. Easy to clean. Lots of Fun.

The only reason I'd go with a 15-22 is if you really want/ need to work with an M-4/16 pattern platform.

So, just to double check, neither the 15-22 or the 522 has issues running cheapy 22lr ammo?

Because I'm seeing posts elsewhere on the web that people are saying to use or not us "x" ammo. (Although they seem to be older posts from when both of these 22lr rifles first came out).
