    Sig Mosquito

after going to the range last night..

I'm starting to re-look into the sig mosquito..

initially when I first tried the sig , the thing would fail to feed.. fail to eject with the cci mini mags.. but last night.. it completely changed my .02 cent on it.. I tried the mini mags, federal bulk , cci bulk, cci (50 rounds box) and the thing will just eat it..

I ran mags after mags on it and not even an single hiccups....

has the quality of the mosquito improved recently? cause If it does, I think I might purchase one...

has any other recent owners had any problems with theirs?

main reason would be, something to practice with.. something to teach the beginners with.. and something that's easier on the wallet..
    thanks..

Garbage. Has the worst trigger of any 22lr pistol I've owned. Looks good that's about it..

Trigger is horrible, mine would not work any 22lr, except CCI minimags, and even with the minimags it will still FTF, FTE.

Try the Ruger SR-22, or Any of the other Ruger Mark Series, Or a Browning Buckmark.

For me, as a Sig owner, the mosquito is the only gun they make that doesn't have a lifetime warranty......

Although I have not even handled the SR 22 I would pick it before the Moquito.

I have the Mosquito and I have not a had a problem with ammo but I have only used the mini mags. I hope I am not married to the mini mags because they are not cheap.

The trigger totally sucks but I was able to improve performance by polishing up the feed ramp and trigger assembly but even with that it is still very poor.

As I noted in another post, it is also shooting low, even with 40 grn bullets so I may have to change out the front site. Another cost.

All that sucks when it comes down to it but I still like the gun. I expect, though, that will all change when I get the SR 22 in my grubby little paws.

From what I have heard, the SR 22 does not have those kinds of problems and it can shoot most 22 ammo, supposeadly.

I am on the list for the first one to come into my local shop so I will find out soon.

The only ammo my Mosquito hates is Federal and Federal American Eagle Bulk. I have no other issues with other bulk 22 i.e. winchester, remington. Also the spring installed in the Mosquito out the box is the shorter (heavy) spring for 1400+ fps ammo. If you plan on shooting non CCI ammo, make sure you change out to the additional longer 1000+ fps spring first. I think when people first get their Mosquitos they don't bother doing this and they wonder why they have ejecting issues.

All of you with bad experience need to look into what jaebunz says. Which spring do you have installed in your gun? It comes with 2 springs for a reason and you as the gun owner need to know which spring to use for which ammo you are using. Using the proper spring will greatly improve your experience with the gun and stop your ejection issues all together using the proper spring. The mosquito is a great gun when set up properly.

I have had mine since October of last year. It shoots most non-bulk ammo fine, even Remington subsonics and Aguila 60gr SSS. I shoot a lot of Remington thunderbolts($2/50 at walmart) through it with very good reliability.

The trigger isn't great, and the sights are pretty vague, so it tough to tell exactly how accurate it is. I have hit some pretty small targets at 25-50+ yds, though(You don't have to believe me)

Biggest thing I have found is make sure you have the correct spring, and lightly oil the hammer where it contacts the slide(mine binds up and won't cycle if I don't.

I would say, for a fun non-target type .22 pistol, its a great gun.

The actual value of above $.02 is less than $.01 after taxes.

I have had mine for several years and have no complaints. In the beginning it would only run on Mini-mags but now it seems to take most of the bulk stuff ok. The trigger isn't great but it is mainly a trainer I teach new shooters on.

I have a Mosquito and the only ammo it really hates is the Winchester 333/550 bulk. It actually prefers Remington Thunderbolts! However, it isn't very accurate past 10 yards. My Browning 1911 .22 A1 shoots rings around it, and, it will fire any ammo I put through it. The only downside to the little Browning is that it costs almost twice as much as the other .22 1911 style pistols and the Mosquito, Walther P22 and the Rugers. The smaller size also makes it perfect for anyone with small hands, women, children, etc. It is bar none, the best .22 auto pistol I have ever owned.

I've had a Mosquito for 3+ years and initially there was a problem with different types of ammo.
I use 3 brands of ammo for it, CCI, Fiocchi, and Aquila SSS 60 grain.

I have ten magazines for it and can go through all 10 without a problem.

For those that don't like the trigger, must never have grown up shooting a double action revolver.

For the Mosquito, only the first shot is double action, unless you thumb back the hammer.

I carry it at home all the time and would have no problem using it as a HD weapon, using the Aquila 60 grain rounds, where it will be up close and personal.

It will also take care of rattlesnakes, with bird shot loads. They won't cycle but with one in the chamber to begin with, should take care of business until you manually cycle the next round, if needed. I carry a mag of the shot loads when I walk the dog.

For those that don't like their Mosquito, sell it or practice more. A lot of problems with a gun, is not the gun, it's the shooter.

All of the ammo the Mosquito didn't like, I use in my 10/22.

I learned how to shoot with a bolt action .22. that said Ive found it easier, and safer to teach with a rifle. it seems when most people that have never touched a firearm shoot a pistol for the first time they forget all the safety rules. with a rifle its alot harder for them to point the firearm in a unsafe direction.

Exactly why I am buying my 10/22 TD to teach a couple younger people to shoot. Now that doesn't mean I won't be plinking and trying my hand at targets in the outdoors.
