Looking to purchase a Ruger 10/22 Reciever

I have all the parts to build a Ruger 10/22 except the receiver.
I was putting one together from parts I have for my grandson. Any help is appreciated. (I am looking to keep costs down for him) (and me)

any reciever is going to require going through an FFL. All the receivers i have seen have been 200+ then your going to have to have it shipped to an ffl, pay the transfer fee's, DROS etc and all that so it will come out over 300 easily. I have only seen one gunshop that carries just a 10/22 receiver. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN


your best bet is to find a gun shop and buy a 10/22 new or used and replace the parts. If we knew what area you lived in we might be able to point you in the direction to find a shop

I just went through this same exercise of having all the spare parts from another build. I found a few good options for a 10/22 receiver, MOA and Volquartsen to name a few. Price for me was a big concern. I narrowed my research down to the two easiest on the wallet that I found.

Of course, you need to also budget for shipping, FFL, FFL tax and DROS fees. In my case, this was another ~$80... (And with this you could also argue, why not just find a used 10/22... It's your decision..)

I went with the Tactical Machining receiver. They just had a Calgun special buy for $25 off. I couldn't pass the deal.

Just took the new rifle to the range this weekend... could not be happier! Nice tight groups and I'm still in the break-in process.

Thanks for info. I think I'll wait for a sale on a new rifle..... seems to be best cost effective way. (I live 40 miles So. of San Francisco)

Am confused as to why it is so expensive and why it has such legal restrictions.
Oh well, there are worse things in life.

As for buying a used on.... would love to. Can't find anyone thats wants to sell.

Even though it is a stripped reciever it is still considered a firearm so it has go through an FFL and do the DROS I tihnk this is like 35? plus the dealer is going to charge you for their time, prob another 35 or so. add in shipping the reciever prob 15? your spending an extra $100 right there before you have even paid for the receiver.

Most receivers i have seen are more for the custom build target crowd. sot hey cost a lot more money, like the volquertsen.


Place an add in the want to buy area of the marketplace, might find one near by. Also look around in the for sale area. May get lucky.

It is just the world we live in I'm afraid. We are paying extra (in $$$ & restrictions) for those people in this world that don't believe in personal responsibility and accountability. The same holds true for things like traffic laws and insurance.

By the way, you will have to pay for the DROS fees either way (full rifle or receiver).

I'm really tempted to try one of these 80% projects! It looks like a good challenge. However, I'm short on spare time and didn't plan on building more than one additional 10/22. So, I went with the completed receiver in my case.
