Thought I'd share my first time out with my new M&P 15-22. I'm new to firearms having just started my collection in Dec consisting of 2 Remington 870 Tacticles, an XD9 in OD Greeen and now the M&P 15-22.
I looked (briefly) at the Ruger 10/22 but wanted something a little more AR looking right out of the box. Held both the standard and Performance Center version. The stock and and grip on the PC version seemed much better and felt more ridged than the standard version. I will probably never shoot as good as the PC gun can shoot, but liked the fit and feel of the PC version over the Std.
Anyway first time out was great. My son and I went to Reed's Indoor Range yesterday before the game. Small crowd and only had to wait maybe 5 minutes to get a lane.
I had read that CCI Mini Mags were the best to use in the PC version to minimize FTL and FTF issues. My version has a DVUXXX serial number so it has the latest "blue" springs that fixed some earlier models that had issues.
The 10 round short mags seem to be a bit finiky to get the offset stacking needed to ensure consistant feeds. As I was loading the first and second mag the offset stacking got messed up as I was loading rounds 7-10. I think I'm taking too much pressure off the spring using the load assist buttons.
I had 2 FTL one each on the first 2 mags using CCI Mini Mag rounds. The first had bent the round right in the middle. Pulled the charging handle back and it cleared right away. The second bent/caught the round right were the casing ends. Also pulled and cleared easily.
Subsequent mags seemed to load better and we had zero FTLs or FTF after that. Went through 200 rounds total VERY fun.
Being new to .22, I think it was probably the way I loaded the mags. Next time I may load the mags at home (I have 6 mags) rather than rush at the shooting lane.
This is my version. CA Compliant, 10 round mag, no flash suppressor, no threaded barrel, mag release button. I got mine at the Gun Vault in Mountain View. I paid full retail but very happy with the purchase.
