noob question about Colt umarex M4 22lr

Hey guys, i'm kinda new to guns and the colt umarex m4 is my first ever 22lr
i've own a mosin before but sold it to my roommate to get funds for an eotech 512 for the m4 22.

well my question is what is the maximum range for a 22? and what's the maximum effective range?

and on top of all what distance should i zero my sight in for?

Our boy has run a 15-22 (kinda like your rifle choice) in a couple carbine courses, had fun and saved a ton of money runnin' the .22 instead of the 5.56

iirc (this was two years ago), they had us zero at 25yds, and the furthest we were shooting (on a range at Burro) was 100yds.

We've used the 22 at 100 and 200 yards down at Dulzura, but mostly shoot it 25-100yds.

So, maximum effective range for what?? I don't think it'd be much of a threat on a windy day at 300 yards, but there are many target shooter guys that run out that far (and further...) with .22's, but they are punching paper...don't think they are hunting anything? Some of them can chime in, but their choice of a .22 would be different then yours methinks.

There were some good threads with stuff to learn about those Colts here a couple years ago, maybe search for them.

HTH, have FUN and be safe when you get your rifle.
