question about Redfield peep sight elevation

So, I finally got to try out my new (old) CMP Remington 513-T.. It shoots beautifully, but in order to get my sights aligned at 50m, I had to crank up the sight nearly all the way to the top:



It seems consistent with the elevation scale on the sight, but I have two questions:

1. How do I use this sight to shoot at 100m?
2. If I shoot at 25m, am I really going to be cranking it all the way down?

What front sight do you have on it. Might not be the right height.

I think Sheldon is on to the problem. If you run out of rear sight elevation then all that's left is lowering the front sight. Showing us a pic of the front sight could help. Did you get this rifle from CMP?

I don't believe that is an elevation scale that you are looking at. Each gradation is to be one minute of angle (this depends on the distance between your front and rear sights). The side on the right half of the scale is where you the shooter would etch in say 25, 50, 100, 200 etc. Note that even if you etch increments of 25 yards, the distance between each yardage increment would grow exponentially (think of the flight path of the bullet). So I am certain that you are looking at a MOA scale.

The previous two posters are right, you need a lower front sight for your rifle. I dont have time to look for it but you can run across several websites on google with how to identify the proper sight height. Good luck.

You should be able to work out the proper sight heights that you need from that website.

Yeah, it's minutes on the left, and then you're supposed to scratch in the yards on the right.

It's an Olympic globe front sight, also from the CMP. I've know that ramp front sights are correct for my rifle, but mine came from the CMP with a dovetail mount base (pic below), and I really like the Olympic globe front sight..

I'm wondering if maybe the Olympic rear site would be taller than an International? Or maybe I can get a Lyman globe front sight.. Would that be lower than the Olympic globe?

I'm going to go through the same thing. My 513T came with the front ramp sight, but I got a mount from Ken Viani that is about the same height as your mount. I have an Olympic front globe as well. I got the Lyman 90MJT to try and picked up a Redfield 75 from the sights the CMP put up last week. The Redfield 75 was meant to be used with the low front ramp so I won't be surprised if it doesn't work with a big globe up front. The Lyman 90MJT is suppose to be taller so I hope that works. I'm actually surprised that the Redfield International isn't tall enough.

Going to take the 513T and Mossberg 44 out tomorrow and will report back my success/failure.
