    15-22 User Questions

    Hi CGN,

I picked up the 15-22 today and went to the range to test it out. I was using CCI Minimags with 4 short mags and 2 standard mags. I fired around 200 rounds or more and had two jams. Each time it was with the short mags and on the last round. Both of the jammed rounds were pointed straight up and one had a nice dent in the case. Is this normal or should I have it checked out? I plan on getting some more short mags as well. Even with 6 mags I didn't like stopping to reload. How many mags is too much?

Also I was having trouble with the aim. Both at 3 yards and 7 yards. The shots were a few inches below the bulleyes. The grouping was great, made a hole the size of a quarter with all the rounds fired. I adjusted the elevation towards the "UP" and it still was the below the bulleyes. I had the bulleyes on top of the front sight and even when the front sight was over the bulleyes it still shot down. Is it just my aim, sights, or something else? Before I get the Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 scope I would like to get good with the iron sight down.

After the range I went home and striped the rifle and cleaned. I was watching a video online and saw that both pins were able to be removed to separate the upper and the lower. But I could only push out the pin by the stock (can not fully be removed) and the one by the mag seems to be locked? Can you not separate the upper and lower on the CA model?

    Thanks for your time

I have a 15-22 as well and have several thousand rounds through mine. I don't have any of the short mags so I can't let you know what's going on with that. You can never have enough mags!

When using the iron sights at shorter distances (<25 yards) i like to use the larger aperture sight and make sure the front sight is centered in the rear circle.

The upper can be separated from the lower. Simply push the pins out and it should come apart. It may take some strength at first, but it will pop out allowing you to separate the two. Those pins won't come out of the lower though.

The upper definitely separates from the lower. The pins stay in the lower and its not necessary to remove them. I'm guessing you bought thus used maybe? If so then depending on your round count the barrel nut may be losing thus leading to the poor accuracy. I found the 15-22 to be a tack driver at almost any distance with iron sights or even a cheap batsman red dot.

You are shooting at 3 and 7 yds with a rifle? If you measure the distance from your front sight post to the bore of the barrel you'll notice that its almost the same at the distance from the bullseye of the target to the center of the groupings you shot. That means youre too close to your target and the sights are made to be zeroed at that close of a range. Place your target at any distance from 25yds and beyond and zero your sights. They'll line up for sure.

Exactly. Rifles need to be zero'd at no less than 25-50 yards; especially a .22 rimfire.

When I first bought my two 10 round shorties, I had one weird failure to feed where, like you said, the round was sticking straight up! I assumed that the springs were too stiff at the time? Not really sure but I just compressed and released the springs a few times & it hasn't happened since(Have gone through at least 300 rounds in the two short ones.) I did forget to keep track of which magazine it was but I'm not worried about it since it hasn't happened again.

Thanks, the range I was at didn't go back that far. I was thinking it was a distance thing as well.

I bought it brand new. I'll double check again and try to punch out the pin next to the mag a little harder.

Good to know. I'll go ahead and put some more rounds through it.

After this I going to pick up an AR15. Since I am left handed I will probably go with the Rock River ARMS Left Handed AR15. Anyone know the going price for this in store? I saw the MSRP was $1050 and even at online stores they were $1000. Also they have 3 version, the Entry, Tactical, and Elite. I don't know the main difference between the two? Also does anyone know the going price for a SW MP45 with no safety? I talked to my local shop that I buy my firearms from and they said they can't get their hands on one right now.
