    Slide Catch

Hello everybody, I have a quick question. I have a Remington 597 and I am wondering if it is legal to remove the "safety" slide catch that holds the slide back after the last shot? I think it's a very weak part and the spring almost busted already, I would just like to remove it.

Lets put it this way, its not illegal to remove.

Honestly its a feature not a safety.
Bolt hold opens speed up reloads.
They also save you from dry firing the weapon. (On some 22LR dry firing can cause damage)
Some ranges prefer you to have bolt hold open / it will make it easier you put a chamber flag into the rifle

Chaos47 has an excellent point. If you are concerned, you can either live with it, replace the parts or sell the rifle and then buy a rifle you feel comfortable with.
