It's not a bolt action but I've been looking at the 3.25lb Marlin 70PSS Papoose which is a purpose built as a two piece travel/survival rifle. CZ makes a bolt action with removable/interchangeable barrels but it weighs 6lbs. Savage Mark II rifles are about the same 6lbs which leaves some of the single shot youth models. Here's a quick overview of survival 22s. I'd go with the Papoose and put the rest of the money into a top quality very rugged rimfire scope like a Weaver Classic Rimfire 2.5-7x28.

Great advice. I own one too and couldn't have stated it any better. Incidentally, I'm 6'3" and have pretty long arms... the Scout is short, but its short LOP is never an issue.

If you can find one, they have been discontinued, I have and love my Marlin 981t.
Tube Fed, Bolt action, holds 25 Short, 19 Long or 17 Long Rifle catridges.

I ordered a Marlin XT 22TR. Looks almost just like the 981. I pick it up next Tue. (Sorry, I don't know how to get the pic to show)

                  Marlin XT 22TR

Second vote for the Marlin XT 22TR. Centerfire guns here in Riverside has it for $217.00. Light, simple and cheap. I have two of those Taurus carbine pumps, one in .17 HMR and one in .22. (shown in the pics. above) Out of production now. I would love to trade the .17 for a .22 mag.
