    Savage 7 malfunction

Over Christmas I took a new to me Savage 7 (thank you C&R) out to my favorite shooting spot. I loaded up a couple of magazines with Remington Target for the first time out. Pulled the trigger and fired a single shot followed by several multiple fire bursts. I took it back to my garage for cleaning
Is there anything I have missed. Any other vintage Savage shooters out there?

Point of information. I tried it again after a thorough cleaning still got bursts of multiples. I had my brother in law take it to his smith for some much needed TLC. The rifle is definately postwar (no checkering on the grip) no newer than 1950 or so
It should be a great shooter once its issue is fixed properly.

I know this thread is old....I got it back from the smith initially....still doubled Took it to another smith in San Diego a friend of mine...he did a proper job of it had to stone away a few burrs on the notches in the bolt and the two vertical release plunger and detent plunger...No more burst fire or doubling. Love the old school click-clack action of these rifles.

Ed thats great, I have a newer version of it Stevens 87 forget the letter after it, but its a ball to shoot. First timers are amazed at how the action works.

          Savage 6/7 Stevens-Springfield 85/87

Seems like the action develops a few burrs over time....the action will not stop with the trigger held back as it should....when you fire it, the firing pin drops, the round fires and the bolt comes back re-cocking the hammer/firing pin....the bolt should stay back until the trigger is released.

I do shoot vintage Savages....Model 4 with the peep sight, a model 5 and a Stevens Springfield 86 bolt actions as well as the model 6 and 7 semis. They are still great shooters mounting scopes is a PITA unless you find vintage Weaver N or T mounts for the semi automatics, it is easier than the bolt guns....high scope mount and questionable bolt handle clearance may be an issue
