Federal Bulk vs. Blazer vs. Minimags vs. ?

My 9 yo and I shoot both Federal bulk (blue boxes with 550 rounds) as well as Blazer bulk through an M&P15-22 and a GSG 1911-22. No issues with either. The M&P has been rock solid from Day One with this ammo. Based on feedback from others, we started off the 1911 with 200 Mini-Mags with the assumption that it would help break in the gun. Whether it helped or not, I don't know, but it shoots pretty much anything just fine now.

Federal 550's are pretty much all my M&P will cycle. Not sure about any other Federals

There shouldn't be, but i've had way fewer problems with the 500 rd. bricks than with the loose pack. Could be the loose stuff gets a little beat up bouncing around in the range bag and my 795 is just picky about it.

I second that - loose bulk ammo being distributed on shipping trucks gets banged up a lot more than the individual 50 round box that are also packed in plastic dividers. The 500 pack CCI Blazers look a lot better than the bulk Federal or Remingtons.

Weird but my CMMG 22LR upper shoots the ill-reputable Remington Golden bullets better than the Federal or CCIs. Much tighter groupings at 50yds....

I do agree the extra cost for CCIs = high quality ammo. They are a between the bulk stuff and match ammo.

Like everyone says every rifle is different so shoot all the brands and pick the one that works best....

Last batch of CCI Blazer I got from Dunns. I think that I'll be getting the 525 boxes from PSA just because I dump my bulk ammo into tupperware and the 525's have less packaging material. This is the ammo that I use the most because it is the cheapest and most reliably cycling stuff (for the price) that I can find. Best bang for buck.

I've had good experiences with the Federal stuff as well. I guess the blue box and Wal Mart red box stuff is the same, but haven't had any issues feeding or cycling these either. Seems like none of my 22's are picky about bulk ammo.

My ruger 10/22 has shot everything I've tried in it. I usually buy the 525 round boxes of Blazer or Federal. Very few ftf.

I've only ever shot Federal Bulk in my 10/22. I get maybe less than 10 failures a box, mostly FTE, maybe 1 FTF.

That's a good price, but the shipping is $5/box ! That brings it right up there with my local brick and mortar (Turner's) including tax, and I'll get it the same day. That shipping is a killer!

Dude... you don't order online 1 box at a time. Notice how the shipping for 10 boxes is only $19. Order any ammo online 1-2 boxes at a time and you'll be screwed on shipping. If you don't want 5,000 rounds at once, find some friends and split a case. The shipping is perfectly fine.

Although unless you know your guns like blazer .22lr, I'd suggest not making that kind of order.

edit: Yes, it may sound crazy, but the ammo isn't going to go bad or anything. If you keep it dry it'll work just fine 50 years from now. There are calgunners who will order ammo by the pallet when they find a good enough deal on what they want.

That's true, but I only buy a couple of boxes at a time so I'll just stick with local shops. I'm not sure that I want to buy full cases at a time yet for the Blazer. My gun has had some fail to fires even with good firing pin strikes.

Depends on the gun. I normally shoot Federal Champion (red and blue boxes), CCI Blazer and CCI MiniMags.

All of those ammo run flawlessly in my 15-22 without any issues. Only the Federal blue box has issues in my GSG 1911, but otherwise everything else in it shoots just fine.

Find what works well in your gun, and that's cheap for you, and go with that.

Wallyworlds Federal bulk feeds my Calico M100, Ruger 22/45 and my daugthers Crickett just fine. BTW the Calico is a very picky rifle.

Dunn's comes out to 3.3 cents/rd and Palmetto 3.2 cents/rd if you buy the case. Just depends on if you want the bulk box or boxes of 50 in the plastic cases.
