winchester xpert hv .22 exploded in muh gun

i was shooting the winchester xpert hv .22lr in 2 guns yesterday, a mosquito and an umarex m16, the mosquito had problems chambering the projectile, as they were too large, so it had problems with feeding and extracting, and there were magazines where i would have to manually eject every cartridge. often the slide didn't hold open on the last round.

my buddy in the next stall over also had feeding problems with the m16, and he had a case separation in one of the rounds. it freaked him out.

I know this is supposed to be common with cheap ammunition. I have been trying out various brands of the cheapest bulk ammunition, and this is by far the worst batch i've tried. the bullets would deform and stove pipe. Golden bullets were dirty but never deformed or exploded. federal .22s are a little too long so there are feeding problems in some mags, but at least they are solid and are relatively clean.

Big 5 will accept a return if I can get them some rounds or casings that show the malfunction. Too bad they don't stock decent .22 ammo. It's like "choosing between a douche and a turd sandwich".

Sounds easy enough.

Bring in some of those bullets that are bigger in diameter than .222. Oh yeah, don't forget the extra long ones too. Anything over an inch will cause problems.

It is not so common with cheap ammo and when a person has the kind of issues that you were having its an excellent idea to stop until you figure out what is wrong. I have shot tens of thousands of rounds of cheap bulk ammo and never experienced even one case separation or out of battery firing. Better check your firearm. When a firearm malfunctions don't be too quick to blame the ammo. 22lr ammo will range in diameter from .221 - .224

After my post I ran a cleaning rod & brass brush through the umarex's barrel and it got stuck 3/4ths of the way through. I had to tap it out with a mallet, and it was completely encrusted with lead. Is it possible that ~100 rounds of lead ammo increased friction to the point where the back pressure ruptured the casing? The ammo had problems cycling in two weapons IMMEDIATELY, with no problems with other ammo types.

How much effort does it take to pull back the bolt? Does it feel like you have to overcome some initial resistance or does it just slide open?

Spring was set at standard setting- three full revolutions past the point where the set screw is flush with the receiver. There is resistance that must be overcome before the bolt goes back.

I had 22 blow up, and I mean blow up in my ar
but it was my fault
I had a bottle of lead remover or something like that in my ammo can with the ammo, the remover had a crack in the cap
the fumes must of weakened the brass so much they were blowing up in my face during a rapid fire
thankfully no damage to anything but I learned a lesson
dont keep that cleaner anywhere near brass

I find that xpert to be very dirty, and honestly no more different then american eagle which I also used to get at big 5 or federal blue box packs
