Ruger 10/22 Target or Magnumlite .22?

    Howdy all,

I'm trying to decide between buying a Ruger 10/22 Target or a Magnum Research Magnumlite .22. My questions:

    1. Which rifle is more accurate out of the box? The Ruger has the better trigger, according to most reviews that I've read.

    2. Is the Magnumlite's built in scope rail worth it? I had heard that 10/22's reciever could be hard to scope, so this could be a very attractive feature.

    3. Is the Magnumlite worth the extra 100-200 dollars over the Ruger?

If I buy either rifle, I'll be replacing the stock on it. Any feedback would be appreciated.

The Magnumlite is ridiculously light! It's pretty nice, and my wife loves hers.

      1. Either trigger I would probably upgrade anyway.
      2. The integral rail adds a nice touch, and allows one to mount with lower rings, however with the Axiom stock we did add a cheek riser.
      3. If you want a significantly lighter rifle, it's definitely worth it!

Additionally, I think you're aware, but the Magnumlite is a 10/22 clone. Trigger, magazine and barrel are all interchangeable.

The Ruger 10/22 is a legendary gun...you can't go wrong with it. I have one, my wife has one, my dad, brother, nieces and nephews. Plenty of after market stuff and a history of going boom every time you pull the trigger.

The Ruger comes with a rail and isn't hard to scope IMO.

Here is a review of the Magnumlite: http://www.targetsportsmagazine.com/...w-premium-gun/

As far as accuracy, the article states it shot a 9mm 5 shot group @ 25meters and a 12mm 5 shot group @ 50 meters using Lapua Magazine ammo (not made anymore) and that it liked Eley Tenex as well. The 25 meter group is more than MOA accuracy and the 50 meter group is right at MOA. Expect larger groups with less expensive ammo. I think Eley Tenex is around $30/50.

For my $$$ and that accuracy I would look elsewhere. Heck a Marlin 60 that costs $200 will shoot nearly that good with CCI SV ammo.

If you are truly looking for a target grade .22 I suggest you look at bolt action rifles. Go to a competitive match and you will not see any semi-automatic rifles competing. If you are interested in casual target shooting then it doesn't matter, after all the rifles are inexpensive compared to what you will spend on ammo.

Look at post #34 in this thread for accuracy of 10/22 @ 50 yds. Impressive. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=461929

I've got a 10/22 Target. Very happy without spending 1K.
