    10/22 problem

Ok, here is the problem. My mom who lives in NY bought a 10/22. However, she has no place to shoot it as there are no public ranges in her area. I do not own a 10/22. She came out here to visit so I borrowed one from a friend. Not wanting to give the rifle back dirty, I took it apart. However, at some point after the trigger group was removed, the trigger got pulled and a small spring with a metal piece in the middle came flying out. I've looked everywhere online and I can't find any info on where this thing might go. It is a spring with a metal piece that has a flat end on it. Obviously, I can't give it back as is.

    Thoughts?

I just took apart mine last night. Sounds like the hammer "strut"? One end looks like a bownling pin? Those videos will probaly show you exactly what it is. Also you can look up on youtube for 10/22 hammer replacement.

It's the hammer strut and spring.

Yep, sounds like a hammer strut and spring. Mine did the same thing when I took mine apart for the first time!
Just pull the hammer foward enough to slide the spring unit back into the slots.

Leave the hammer in the cocked position for reassembly once you get the strut and spring back in.

TooSlow. Did any of the responses given to you help? Please let us know. Also, something similar happened to me but it was not the Hammer strut and spring. My problem was a tiny pin that just dropped out that held the magazine release and spring.

I had to order the new lost pin from Ruger but it only cost about $2.00 or so. I had it within a week. Ruger has a seperate website to order parts if you loose more in the future.
