    Marlin Magwell Modification Help Needed

I have a Marlin 70pss and 795. Following a couple how-to threads (the one on youtube from fogcitytactical is great) I reworked the trigger to a satisfactory pull. But one thing that still bothers me is the lack of a drop free magazine. Can't find any info on modifying this. I tried filing the magwell and then grinding it with a dremel, what seemed like a lot... still too sticky after I pull the tab, it won't drop free without a good tug. Has anyone had any success getting their marlin 60 or 70 mags to drop free? Any help appreciated!

Update: I got the 7rd factory mag to drop free, but the Marlin 10 rounders still stick. I measured the fore-aft dimension (the dimension accounting for the length of a cartridge if that makes sense) for both revealing the difference. The 7rd = 1.113 and the 10rd = 1.125 So I guess I just have to keep grinding away that last 12 thousandths and should be good?

why mess with the mag well and not the magazines. Yes it's more work but if you mess up the magazine's are cheaper than replacing everything that's needed to replace a mag well.

The magwell's just one cast piece of aluminum, looks fairly straight forward. Haven't tried pricing one yet. But okay, what do you suggest, grinding down the front/back of the mags?

They are only about 7 bucks, so I say mod the magwell.

Some people grind the tab out of them to make them work with "preban" style mags that didn't have the cut in them. So there are people out there modding this part.

Btw you could try to bend the magazine release ever so slightly to make it easier to push. Oh and lightly sand the little bump that acts as the catch.

It's not the friction seating the mag I'm so concerned with as much as having it drop free once I pull back the mag lock tab. I dunno why there's such a big difference between the 7 and 10 rounders. I hope the 7's will still work once I grind off enough material to make the 10's drop free.

Im going to order an extra mag well and give this a go. I was tinkering with this same need many months back, I polished the mags and made sure there where no burrs. The mag well I ground and polished it, but i obviously didnt grind enough to get the 10 round mags to drop free. i will try again

I measured the two mags I have and found a .012" difference between them in length. Though with use I've already noticed them getting closer. I'll have to watch the youtube video and see what it's about. The mag roughly 1.125" long which seems to be where the issue is, at least with my 795. Which I'll shoot for the first time tomorrow.

Is there a video about modifying the magwell? Got a link? I'm just wondering if I keep grinding the magwell that extra 12 thousandths, will it make it too loose for the 7 rounders? And why in the world would they make the mags different in that dimension!?
