Marlin model 39 "S" serial number advice

Hello, I am trying to get an approximate value on this old Marlin .22, octagon bbl. about 24" case color reciever, serial has an "s" in it as in s8xxx, condition is ok maybe 70% +or-. On Gunbroker ther is one "S" model and they want 1,199- fot it,cracked stock at grip and 2 holes drilled in the bbl. I am wondering on a value of the one I can buy private party. Are these really exspenive guns ? Thanks in advance.
Lead will be worth more than silver and gold when they are giving it away free !

The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.
