Old Winchester Bolt action questions...

Last week, I came across some rimfires that I've never seen, both are old school.

One was a Winchester Model 75 (that was sadly hacked down to make a crude, ugly pistol). The barrel and its walnut stock are pretty much trashed now, but the bolt, receiver, and trigger parts seem to work).


I also found an entire Model 72 Winchester (bolt action, tube feed). Well it was complete except it was missing its bolt.

I don't have regular access to these rifles, but will the bolt from the 75 work on the 72? I'd like to inform the owner.

1. Breech bolt part #s are different.
2. Bolt handle with cocking sleeve part #s are the same, except for last letter A vs B.
3. Firing pin spring part #s are the same, except for the last letter A vs B.
4. Firing pin part #s are the same, except for the last letter B vs A.


This tells me that the internals of the bolt are different which may not be a problem but with the Breech Bolt being a totally different part number would indicate to me that the bolts are not interchangeable.

This was just a sample of the major parts. Many other small parts involved in the bolt of course.

Still waiting on an answer from rimfirecentral. Lots of winchester experts/collectors over there.

Also it would appear that all the parts for the bolt in the Model 72 or 75 are available for purchase.

It would not be any more SBR than a Draco or AR pistol, as the stock is cut off too.

The hack job is bad, and it makes me sad, especially after I saw how nice a whole 75 would have been.

It came out of a safe of an old-timer who passed away. He used to be SFPD back in the day, and my guess is that he probably confiscated that 75 from some hoodlum and threw in the very back of the safe. Otherwise I'd see no reason why a shooter like him would have done that.

I also found a Remington 514. Don't know too much about it either. I shot a Rem 510 once, so I do know that these are quite old.

All of them need lube and TLC.

Was that Mod 75 a sporter? I would really be sad if sporter instead of the target.

Any cut down WInchester Model 75 would be sad. I have loved shooting my Model 75 for the last 20 yrs I've had it.

I want to say it was a target one, but I don't honestly know.

It was cut down, after all.


I did notice it was walnut, if that helps.
