Savage mark ll TR in 17hmr

Just bought one, now that is in jail I need to look for accessories. Does anyone have this rifle? How does it group? What kind of ammo does the savages like generally? I am going to look for 10rounds mags. Do they make them?

No ten round mags available as yet. My Savage likes Hornady 17gr V-max but I suggest that you try a box of Federal, CCI TNT, CCI HollowPoint Varmit and CCI 20gr. Some of the Savages like the 20gr over the 17 gr but the majority like the 17 gr. I don't have the TR so don't know about accessories. Might want to look at DIP Products, they make accessories for the Savage.

When you pick up your rifle look very closely at the barrel crown and the bore. Savage has put out a few rifles with questionable crowns and bores recently, at least thats what I have read over on rimfirecentral.

Under 1/2" @ 50yds. At 100yds just a bit over 1.5" but I am sure that it is my shooting and not the rifle or ammo. I am still getting used to the trigger, etc so I expect the groups to shrink. I have only shot the rifle on 4 occasions. Twice to find the ammo it likes and twice for groups.

For ammo look @ midsouthshooterssupply.com. About the least expensive I have found and they ship quickly. 1000 rounds of Hornady shipped to my door for $208. WalMart carries some Winchester (case splitting problems), Federal and a couple different CCI. Might want to start there before buying a lot of anything. Unfortunately WM does not carry any Hornady.

          great rifle!

I have the stainless, bullbarrel, thumb hole version (bttv?)

I have only had this out 2 times and I was getting bug holes at 100 yards
(around 1/2" with a bipod from a bench) this is by far the most accurate rifle I own. I have shot it with all the different ammo I could get my grubby hands on and the horady v-max 17g was the best grouping. my only real complaint about this rifle is the magazine system, it has a friction lock and does not like to fully seat the magazine.

          sorry for the blurry image

I just bought the Mark II TR and like it so much and am fascinated with 17hmr, I'll be getting the same rifle as the OP......probably will order in a couple days.

In my minor 17hmr experience, that stuff's very accurate.

Love my 93r17 BSEV. Great gun, very accurate, and was able to get the trigger down to 1lb, 2oz by myself with little issue.
