Is this normal on a Marlin 795?

Posted this on the Marlin 795 mega thread but I figure it is specific enough that it warrants it's own thread.

I just noticed that my 795 is gouging three strips on the next bullet in the mag while it is chambering a round. Did do something to cause this? Is this okay? Should I do anything to fix it? Here are some pics







since I had the camera out, I took one beside a #4-6 x 7/8" plastic wall anchor I use as a snap cap (from Home Depot)

I don't remember if it gouged 3 strips, but it definitely gouged my ammo.

Is there a failure to feed at all? or eject?
Does the round fire consistently with out issue?
It looks like a soft lead round are you able to scratch the round with your finger nail?

I just noticed this so I don't know if this has been happening or if it just started. I'll have to go to range (yay!) to see if I get any failures.

Those are Blazers by the way, looks like I can scratch the bullet with my fingernail but not as deep as the ones shown on the pics. I don't know if my nail is scratching the lead or just the wax covering.

I've had the same problem with aftermarket mags. I bought three new mags from Midway, and finally got them out shooting. All three fed flawlessly until i'd put about 700 rounds downrange, then one mag started having failures to feed, occasional stave pipes, and was tearing up the bullets exactly like your pictures. Only did it on the last three rounds, though.

The other mag that had issues consistently had misfires on the first three rounds and then fed fine. I've also had similar issues with borrowed aftermarket mags in the past. Usually a shot of CLP on the bolt and feed ramp helps for a while. Of course no one actually brought any last time. I'm putting it down to the gun being very dirty after 700 rounds of CCI Blazer, but I did mark the two mags so I can see if I have the same issues next time.
