Safety Issue with Ruger 10 22

Good day I just purchased a Ruger 10 22, I took it to out shooting with my son for rabbit hunting and I noticed when I place the rifle on "Safe" after cocking the rifle, the trigger seems to freeze once the safety is cycled off for the first shot, I need to apply a great amount of effort to fire the 22 sometimes wiggling the trigger works. This only happens on the first shot than seems to work fine until I change mags and safety the rifle again.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I had taken my 10/22 apart to install a new barrel and stock and some how i rotated my safety button and I couldn't pull the trigger. Wonder if your dealing with something similar. someone with more experience should chime in or maybe someone at rimfirecentral.com could be helpful also.

did you take it apart before shooting it? if so, you likely did not put it back together correctly. I had something similar happen after i cleaned mine once. took it apart again and it worked fine.

OK, I took it apart and, under closer inspection it appears the safety carries too far left with safety disengaged (Red fire position) by approx. 20 thou. If you apply enough pressure or side pressure on the trigger the sear will pass and the rifle will fire. Once fired the safety seems to remain in the correct position unless you press it again, the same thing happens again.
Is there a way to fix this without replacing the entire trigger group and assembly?

If you are local I can take a look at it for you.
Yes, sometimes the safety gets spun when going in and out of the stock.
It could be the spring plunger has come out of its hole.

Look inside and see if the detent is still seated (like the above poster stated). I't been awhile since I had the same issue, but think I handled it with a small flat screw driver or dental pick and some manipulation.

It seems to happen to every 10/22 owner at least once.
