Ruger MK III Hunter sight in problems... Help!!

I just brought home a very nice SS Ruger MK III Hunter with the 6.88 fluted barrel yesterday and tried to sight it in this afternoon with little success. With the sight bottomed out the POI is still almost 2" high at 15'. At 25 yrds (competition range) the POI is 4-5" high. Since I bought it as a target/competition gun I'm really upset by this. I sold off my last .22 pistol because the sights sucked and I didn't want to have to continually hold low-left to hit bullseye. I also had to adjust the rear sight almost all the way right to center it out.

The pistol has a fiber optic sight that I've never used before so I'm still not ready to rule out myself entirely but it shouldn't be that difficult. Anyone have any ideas?

was the gun rested on sandbags?

Did you use more than one kind of ammunition with which to test? .22s can be really finicky in their ammunition choices.

My Ruger Mk III Hunter 6 7/8" fluted barel shoots perfectly at 25 yards with 40 grain CCI mini-mags.

I came across this on google, two posters having the same issue, within a month, Sept. 2011. Look at the last post, call Ruger and see if you can get a different sight blade.

Yes I rested it on sandbags as I tried to sight it in. Group were great just high.

Did you use more than one kind of ammunition with which to test? .22s can be really finicky in their ammunition choices.

I had two types of ammo with me and tried them both. CCI minimags and Federal bulk 36g HP. POI's weren't much different and both types cycled without problems.

i spent a little and attatched a red dot to my 22/45 and i hitting dime size groups at 35'. my sights wouldnt adjust where i needed them and i am satisfied with the results

I'd like to do that but the competitions I'm entering specify "open or iron sights only."

*UPDATE* Called Ruger and they are going to send me a new rear sight blade with a deeper cut V. I also ordered a standard square cut rear blade and a solid square front sight post for about $18 shipped. Not a bad deal. Hope it helps.
