10/22 barrel suggestions needed

So now I have around 500 rounds down range and I think I want a .920 bull barrel. I have a new hornet trigger group on the way, I also have already changed out my stock to a Boyd's evo. I'm thinking about a green mountain 18" fluted in the blued finish. Anything else I should look at for a similar price? What about 16 vs 18 vs 20 and big advantage or disadvantage? I will be doing most of my shooting at 100 yards and from a bench. Thanks all for your help!!!

100 yds, the 16" will do, Compact and light.

i love my boyds evo stock, but i took it off for now to start my next build with. im planning on using a 16.5" tactical solutions fluted aluminum barrel because they are very light weight, and the evolution stock makes for a great offhand shooter.

right now im running a 20" Shilen bull barrel which is very accurate, but costs a little more than a GM, but i couldnt be happier.

any "name-brand" barrel should do just fine for you, but if i had to suggest something, I'd say go with the tacsol. it works very well with the stock your getting, it will do fine at 100 yds, and if you want to get into some more competitive like offhand shooting, it will be more comfortable than the GM 18"

I know there are lots of higher priced barrels out there but I have a butler creek ss heavy bull and can consistently shoot 1 MOA with match ammo. Very happy with the results and the price.

Calculated or are you actually making 1" groups at 100yrds? I think it might be the ammo, and I'm using wolf, but it seems to get affected a lot past 70 yards or so

Look into the Kidd 18" lightweight barrel. Nice finish and well made. Plus a little lighter than a regular 16" Bull.

I have 2 Volquartsen carbon barrel for my 10/22s. they shoot so well my 5-year old shoots 1" groups benched at 50 yards with PMC Zapper. I put it in a Blackhawk Axiom stock and it weighs 5lbs with a 3-9x32 scope.


When I used to shoot them, they both will do .75" 10-shot groups at 50 yards with Winchester 22XLR and CCI Small Game Bullet. They put 10 rounds of Elay Tenex into 1 single .4" hole at 50 yards. but that was over a decade ago, now the kids 'own' them...

I had a Tac Sol light weight barrel on mine and was unimpressed for the money. I put a Green Mountain 16" Bull on it and was shooting 1/2" at 50 yards with the old, not new, Fed 36 gr. Bulk.
Great quality for the money.
I wouldn't go longer than 16" myself. Heavy and it doesn't really yeild better accuracy.

I have a 10/22 with a Hornet trigger and an Evo stock. When I first built it, I put a 16" chrome moly bull barrel on it. It was very muzzle heavy because of the barrel weight on that light weight stock. I'd think about at least a fluted barrel to keep the weight down. I ended up switching to a Beyer lightweight 16". It balanced the gun very well, and shoots extremely accurate. Kidd, Whistle Pig and some other make light barrels, but you're talking twice the price of a Green Mountain or Shaw. With that stock you just need to keep the barrel weight in mind. There is a barrel weight calculator program on RFC forum you can download and see the difference between fluted and non fluted chrome moly and ss barrels at different lengths, but it won't do the lightweight aluminums with barrel sleeve. When you're done, I think you'll really like shooting it. The lighter trigger and the bull barrel will make a ton of difference. I just sent my bolt in to get it pinned, headspaced and radiused, I was told that it will make it even more accurate. Good luck.

I run a kidd barrel. Very happy with it. That being said. I had a fluted GM barrel I wish I never parted with.

Fluted Kidd 16" barrel. It fits my personal preference for a little extra weight up front, compared to tacsol, and is a high quality barrel.
