Non-CMP source US Gov't Mossberg 44's

Was and is the CMP the only source for US Property marked Mossberg 44's?

I'm waiting for a pair of Mossberg 44's that I snagged from an on-line estate sale and am wondering if they are US Property marked, whether they had to have come through the CMP at some time.

Any one know about this?

I bought one (US marked) years before the CMP sold them.So there must be another route.

I believe some were sold used by Big5 Sporting Goods. Don't know where they're originally.

Send a letter to CMP with serial numbers they can tell you if they went through the DCM or the CMP. I did that with a Garand that I just HAD to know where it came from. Found out it was a pre CMP Garand sold during the old DCM "one Garand in a life time" years.

They arrived today and came with good news a little disappointment..

The disappointment.. neither is "US Property" marked. They are both civvy 44US(a) models.

Everything else is great! The one without sights was actually a bit more expensive than the one with. It is in great shape. Bluing and stock are in outstanding condition and look almost unfired.

Nice looking rifles! Havlin Sales might have a scope mount for the one that looks like it has had a scope on it before. All the USGI Mossberg M44's I had (5 rifles) the bolts were case colored, I wonder if that was one of the differences between the GI and the Civilian models? You scored good, enjoy those rifles!

I switched the sight off the drilled and tapped rifle to the more pristine one and am getting a scope mount from Havlin for the D & T'd rifle. Hopefully it will cover the holes.
