    .22 Penetration

Here's a 55 gallon drum head I shot at 92 yards with bulk Federal HP's. I just let fly with a tube full from my Model 60. Full penetration on the front, none on the back.
I'm not sure of the metal gauge, but the thickness of the steel is about .050.

    No pic, try again.
The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.

Some idiots are too busy knowing it all to ever learn anything

Any bullets recovered or were they splattered inside?

From a rifle, it can often surprise people what a .22 LR can do. Not going to claim it is a high powered battle machine, but too many people think it is on par with their vintage pump action air rifles.

The CCI Velocitor loads are supposed to be a harder alloy if you want more penetration, but I use their Mini-Mag RN load almost exclusively. I'd say just switching to RN style might start putting dents in the back of that barrel.

Give that a try and repost some pix!

I know that a .22LR rimfire should NEVER be used against a wild boar, but I found this video interesting and educational none the least. This is a video showing how a .22LR will NOT penetrate throught the tough "shield" armor of a wild boar. I believe in the video, the tough pig's shield is only about 2" thick.

                Enjoy.

OK, shook the big can and this is what I found. Some projectiles retained the jacket, some shed them and the center core made it through. The jackets were all on the ground immediately in front of the drum.Anything inside sat in a rusty soup for a couple of weeks therefore the discoloration.
Almost everything else I shoot has no problem penetrating drums, I just had to see what the HP's would do. I have some solid point Aguila Supermax's and CCI's which I'll try next.
Burn barrels require a lot of ventilation.

I think you will see some difference with the SuperMax. If you can, try the Aguila Intercepters as well. Hot rounds.

i think far too many underestimate the .22lr.

when kept within it's limits, it works great as a small game cartridge.

by small game, i mean: nothing larger than a coyote when utilizing proper shot placement.

I alternate the Aguila's with Bulk Federal and or CCI's in my Buckmark, one round of one then the other. A lot louder report and less time to target. I try to save the hot /expensive .22's for more critical issues.
If only I could find some depleted uranium .22's.

A wild boar's shoulder gristle can stop a full powered centerfire round. I've shot a boar with a compound bow(which has even more penetration in scenarios like this) and the gristle stopped my arrow! It went in about 2" which was the length of my broadhead, and later worked itself out. I was like

I can vouch that a .22 will go through a 4x4 post AND a garage door and into the woods somewhere....several times. This from an old Winchester M90. Ooopsie
