1022 questions???

Hey guys so after doing some of the tuning mods posted here and on rimfire I finally got to shoot my first 1022 I bought about two months ago. (I'll say I think I had the most fun in like a year.)

So to my questions for the first 4 or 5 rounds I had 1 round shoot and the others didn't have a mark on the rim like the firing pin got stuck any posable reasons as to why? it was fine after those rounds and i didn't do any thing to the pin.

Second question is I took the barrel off to clean it (because I am under the impression that to clean it properly you follow the direction of the bullet to avoid hurting the crown. is this correct?) and i noticed that when reinstalling the barrel that I could twist it left or right and bolt it down in that position. Is there an index I'm missing or is this normal?

Lastly I bought a Compact and the rear sight dovetail is quite a bit smaller than the dovetail on the barrel so much that I can see light through the bottom of the dovetail. Is this normal? its a williams is there anything better because I get it low enough to zero it.

Not sure about the light primer hits as I don;t know exactaly what you have done/changed. As for the barrel, yes, its generally better to clean from the breach if you can, but i wouldnt go as far as taking the barrel off. I would suggest a $15 bore snake and call it good, you really dont ever need to do a serious scrubbing on a rimfire. Reinstalling the barrel, you want to index the extractor into the notch machined on the barrel as you are correct, there is no barrel to reciever indexing pin. I'm not familar with those sites. If you like the site picture of an AR, I recommend Tech Sites, they are excelent.

yeah i didn't do anything to the firing pin i thought it was really odd
and i have seen those sights but i thought they looked a little tall and bulky. As well i might add an optic but i thought the tech sights mount off the the rail screws. And i really like the sights i have now just again they don't get low low enough to zero.

also to give an example they look almost exactly like the true glow sights

O yeah and i do plan to get an otis kit at some point but for now i have one of those brass rods that thread together so i guess thats next on my list but thanks for the advice

Once you are happy with the place your barrel is installed in your receiver go ahead and scribe a line someplace where they meet. Use this as a reference for future work.

Also, pull the action out of the rifle, pull the bolt out of the action. Run a cleaning rod through from the loud end and mark where it hits the rear of the receiver. This is where you will drill your hole for future cleaning.

Go to Rimfirecentral.com and do a lot of reading. Those guys know everything.

yeah i saw that mod and was thinking i was going to do that as well as soon as turners gets some sling swivels in stock you know knock them both out on the drill press at the same time

Im perfectly happy with my Ruger OEM factory stainless barrel. I dont understand why people swap out the factory barrel on the new 10/22's. My shooting buddy wants me to do so, so we did a little contest at 25, 50, 75 and 100 yds. I cut out some steel life size silhouette rabbit targets with my plasma cutter.

I hit every rabbit as he did with his tricked out barreled 10/22. I saved money and have more ammo to shoot. He doesnt. If i need to go further than 100yds and a bench rest, ill use my .5.56 or .22-250.

Tricking out a 10/22 is like taking a VW beatle and attempting to convert it into a wannabe Porsche 911. Why not just buy the real deal if thats what one wants?

Sorry to take yer thread off on a tangent, but I couldnt help it when i read that you put an aftermarket barrel on that probably costs more than the original gun itself.

I didn't. I took it off to clean the stock barrel. was it written that bad? I know grammar isn't one of my strong points.
