    Ruger MKIII Vs. 22/45

Anyone know the major difference between the two?

The 22/45 has the angled grip of a 1911 along with it's saftey etc. modeled on 1911. For me it's much more comfortable to shoot than a plain mk. 3.

22/45 lower is plastic.MKIII is metal and costs more.Grip angles are different, would suggest trying both if possible.

Mechanically, they are basically identical. The 22/45 has a polymer grip frame with a grip angle more similar to a 1911. It also takes a different magazine, similar to the MkIII but with a larger base plate.

LOVE my MKIII rather than the 22/45. I tried both and I like both grips, but I'm an all steel guy if I can help it. I love the weight, it has a 6 7/8" barrel with a VQ compensator adding even more muzzle weight which helps keep on target for quick follow up shots. Shooting red dot or irons, its just a tac driver!

I recently got a MKIII hunter and absolutely love the thing. Mine came with the cocobolo wood grips which felt good, but I'm giving the Hogue brand a try at the range tomorrow.
Personally I didn't like the plastic feel of the 22/45, and although it is designed to feel like a 1911, I really don't think it does. But thats just my opinion, and I really don't know sh*t

I like the feel of steel as well. The plastic on the 22/45 is slick and though the angle is the same as a 1911, the thickness isn't and it doesn't feel exactly true to the 1911. They are cheap though, especially when they go on sale.

I have both, I like the 22/45 better, personally, because of the magazine release position. Both are target models and are sweet shooters.

the 22/45 has a poly lower and is angled where as the 3 has larger grip and you can change the grips out on the mark 3 where i havent found any for the 22/45

The 22/45 RP models have replaceable grips. However, I don't believe any are on the CA Roster, so they are more difficult to come by.

I think there are also custom shops that will modify the 22/45 to take standard 1911 grips.
