The MK II G is not really a bull barrel. We use the MK II FVT for our Junior shoots and they shoot fantastic. Kids (and I) love how they shoot. Excellent sight picture, good balance, great triggers.

Take a look and the FVT's or the TR's (same as FVT but without sights)

The mkII FV has a bull barrel and its only $288 retail. and the BV model had wood stock and bull barrel if you were mainly lookin at wood stock for $360 retail.

I say cruise the market place forum. You can find some great deals there from time to time. I will be doing a ppt for a BV model next week. Comes with a Rifle Basic trigger upgrade and a cheap 22 scope with only 2k rounds through her for just a tad over $200!

On Savage rifles the "V" designates bull barrel, so you would be after a GV.
          Personally Im after a BTVSS

The model G is certainly not a Bull barrel. Thats a pee shooter barrel. Get the FV and buy a Boyds stock, or just buy a BV. Plastic stocks are awful on these rifles and flex enough to change point of impact. I had a FV in 17HM2 I fixed up and loved it. It could hit a dime every shot at 100 yards, but there had to be zero wind
