The Savage bolt guns are more accurate. The 10/22 has the largest selection of aftermarket parts and customization available. In my opinion it comes down to what you're going to do with it and how serious you are about accurate practice, or you're leaning more toward a fun training rifle. Mind you, the 10/22 is not an inaccurate rifle.
I've got a 10/22 and love it, I doubt I'll ever get rid of it. I'm also buying a Savage Mk II FVSR soon, but that'll be for silent squirrel killing and more serious practice of the fundamentals to save money on ammo. The 10/22 is more fun to plink and shoot quickly with. -
use it for appleseed project and fun shootingComment

Which savage? Semi auto? The magazines for them are very expensive as far as 22s go. 1022 has a large selection of flashy or otherwise simply comfortable stocks/grips. It also has a large selection of aftermarket mags available. From excellect quality factory mags to like 10 different banana box mags to a couple of drums. Even belt conversions.....
Personally I am not big on modifying, if factory gun fits me well and shoots well.Comment

If you are comparing the bolt action vs the 10/22. It's more of a personal preference/use as to which you get. If you are talking about the Savage semi auto and 10/22. I would get the 10/22. Best option for a semi auto magazine feed.

ok tnx. any place to buy ruger 10 22 magazine? are rimfires allowed hi capacity mags?Comment

Hi-cap mags are not allowed in any caliber here in California (Hi-Cap being over 10 rounds)....unless you already owned them pre-ban (before Jan 2000), or are active Law Enforcement. The BX-25, I believe, did not exist back then in it's current packaging, so you'd have a hard time explaining your possession of one if you're not LE. Tube fed .22 are the only exception to the 10 round limit rule in rimfire.Comment

to me this is kinda an apple and orange thing
yes I know they are both rimfire rifles but bolt VS semi"Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms." James Madison

I think most folks use semi-autos at Appleseed events. You might find this to be of some help. http://www.survivalistboards.com/sho...d.php?t=185622Last edited by Izzy43; 09-30-2011, 5:10 PM.Comment

I'm a marlin fan for .22lr semi-auto guns. Bolt guns, its all savage. For fun plinking and moster amounts of modifications, 10/22 it is. The mods are limitless.Comment
