who makes the best 22lr pistol conversion?

im considering getting one but i want it to cost under 300.
anything over that and i might as well just buy a 22 pistol.
the guns i could convert are a glock, a cz, and a 1911.
from what i can tell the cz kadet kit is supposedly flawless but is out of my price range.
which conversion kit is more reliable the glock one or the various 1911 ones?
or is the kadet just plain worth it?

Advantage Arms and the Kimber conversion kit for the 1911 are in your price range. Haven't checked anyting on the Glock series as I do not own one.

I have seen the Kimber kit break $300 at local gun stores. If you see that, check somewhere else as they usually sit in the $269-$289 price range normally (NorCal here). On another note, the Kimber kit seems to be available at every store I frequent. Not so much on the other brands.

One thing I noticed about the Advantage Arms kit is that they (AA) recommends replacing the factory/spec hammer spring with different one (17lbs instead of 23lbs?) and even include it with the kit now. If you plan on turning a 1911 into a dedicated .22lr set this would be ok, but not so much if you want to swap back and forth with the original slide for the weapon. My opinion of course.

Either way, using jacketed/coated HV rounds function best with everything I've tried/read (CCI Minimags seem very popular). Bulk lead bullets usually cause the FTF/FTE issues a lot of folks talk about.

If you are curious about +$300 kits, Tactical Solutions and Nighthawk (Marvel build) make some decent looking kits for the 1911. They sit in the $400 range though so the new pistol would probably be a better option.

If you really want to go upscale, find an older SIG P210 9mm and then locate one of their factory 22 conversion units---shouldn't cost more than $3,000 - 4,000 (LOL). This would be a "lifetime" pistol that will shoot with the best of them! One of my shooting buddies had the CZ75 9mm and its factory 22 unit that shot REAL well.

Alot of 22 kits are made by only a few manufactures, Marvel and Ciener.
The Advantage Arms kit like stated before is excellent for Glocks, don't know about 1911. For that I use a Colt conversion kit, all steel no aluminum.

My Advantage arms kit on my Glock23 has been pretty great, not flawless, but if I keep it clean it works about 98-99% so I'm always happy unless I forget to clean! Just clean every 100-300rds n yer good to go!
