Tapco 10/22 stock mods ????

I've got a 10/22 Tactical with a Tapco stock. I've already added a side mounted rail for a flashlight and a Magpul vertical forward grip. I've been running a red dot but would like to have some iron sights as well. Since I have the threaded barrel the gun has no iron sights what so ever. I picked up some Magpul BUIS via Ebay. Now I'm running into a few problems.

1st. Sight radius.
2nd. The Tapco rail is lower than the receiver mounted rail.
3rd. My receiver rail is a weaver rail not a 1913. So the rear sight won't mount.
4th. Co-witnessing will be difficult.

Possible solution. I've got a short 5 slot Magpul accessory rail I'm thinking of mounting to the top of the Tapco stock just behind the receiver. It'll almost be lower enough for proper sight alignment & would improve sight radius.

Has anyone seen or added a rail to the stock in this location?

I'm in the same boat, sorta... I upgrading to a heavy barrel on my 10/22 with a Tapco stock. I'm also running a red dot or scope, but I'd like to have some iron sights as well. And like you, I was thinking Magpul, but I haven't bought them yet for the reasons you explained, minus the fact I have a M1913 rail on my receiver, not Weaver.

I'm also concerned with accuracy at close and long range or if the Magpul + Tapco combination would even work with a .22LR setup like this...

I've been thinking about how to do this for a few months now. I already bought a 5 slot picatinney rail from Magpul. I took some measurements and mocked up some ideas. Then I hit up a buddy with a mill and luckily he had some time free so I headed over and got to work. I milled a few practice pieces and went for it.

I've been thinking about using tech sights and moving them back to the end of the receiver. Then I figured the spot between the faux buffer tube and the receiver pocket. It's long enough for the rail but isn't flat and the rear MBUS sight sat too high to give a proper sight picture. Of course I'm no expert and all my spectulations will be answered when I shoot it again.

Here's what I came up with. I milled a slot in the stock to sink the rail down about an 1/8". I also milled some relief into stock mount to clear the rail mounting bolt. Then I drilled some holes and bolted it together.





What do you guys think?

So the 30mm red dot has the dot about 1/4" lower than the iron sights. I'm curious if the 42mm sight would put dot in the right spot. Anyone have a 42mm red dot sight? Kinda surprised no one commented on the this mod.

Thanks, I wanted to put the front sight on the barrel but since my barrel is threaded with a flash hider I was limited. Hope your project goes well.

I shot it this weekend while wheeling and the rear sight height need some work but I'll wait till I hit a range with it to find out for sure.
