Henry AR-7 Survival Rifle Range Reportlette

Winchester Wildcat 22 High Velocity rifle cartridges? Eh, no. Half the time there is a ftf/fte. CCI's, no problem whatsoever. Looks like the bullets just need to be copper plated and then life is grand.

Out of the box I was on paper at 50 yards and hitting pie-plate size metal targets at 100 yards almost every time. Put a scope on it and was making two inch groups at 50 yards which was way better than expected.

Glad to see yours works. I had a version from another manufacturer and was sorely disappointed. Great concept and a neat little rifle.

I have a few bricks that I can't get shot up because indeed, it is the crappiest .22lr ammo I have ever owned.

It's entertaining, though, how the bullets wobble in the case. We should be happy they actually exit the barrel at all.

My son has the Henry AR-7, also. Feeding seems to be problematic. We get 2 or 3 jams in every magazine with Federal bulk pack from Wal-Mart.
Otherwise a nice design and concept.

Sounds like you need a bolt .22 to dispose of it for you.

This was the nail in the coffin. I have been on the fence about this rifle. Looks like I will be starting another 10 day wait after Tuesday.

I have played with one of these almost every chance I can at the gun shop.

May follow me home one day..

The critical part of the feeding system is the magazine lips and not wether it's copper coated. Just take care of the magazines and they'll feed for you every time.

Are they jacketed or just exposed lead?

Where do you put your left hand? I would imagine the barrel gets hot after a couple of rounds, so do you just hold it in close at the receiver?

Not with regards to this rifle. It looks like the feed ramp just has too steep an angle and when soft lead comes in contact the bullet deforms and causes problems. The magazines are brand new and both have the same issue and it's been reported widely that many many other rifles have the same issue. I've run a bunch of cartridges through it now -- all the exposed lead bullets have issues, all the quality jacketed ammo worked fine. Don't know why the failures to eject though except maybe some sheared-off lead is getting stuck between the casing and the barrel.

I didn't even think to notice the barrel heat. It's coated in plastic. I think I was gripping both the receiver and a little barrel with my left hand.

Just too much going for them not to own one: 1) inexpensive 2) super lightweight and packable 3) (so far) very reliable with good ammo. 4) All the girls and a few guys, including the range employees come over and ask about it at the range 5) It floats!
