Buckmark or Mosquito?

Can't decide between the two, both are on sale Turner's for $299. I already have a Ruger Mark III which I think serves the same purpose as the Buckmark and I also have a P226 which would make a great companion for the Mosquito, but I've read that the Buckmark is a better gun. My wife says I can buy one now and buy the other one later.

Mosquito has a checkered past. A friend has one and it is a jam-o-matic. Some have said it's been resolved in the last year. Just free advice.

I don't have a Buckmark, but wish I did.. And they've been around a while

Buckmark is Accurate and reliable. I've had exactly ONE Failure to chamber in 1000+ rds. and that was a cartridge that appeared to have a VERY poorly seated projectile. It was loose to the point of being crooked in the brass. This must have made the total package far too long to feed properly. No FTE, No failures to strike primer adequately.

Personally I wouldn't buy any of those. Ruger beats those in accuracy, reliability, and availability of parts. The only thing it loses on is looks, which I don't place a high value on. Save up your money. If you really want a 22, buy another pistol and a 22 conversion for it. Cheap 1911 and then a Marvel conversion. CZ75+conversion. Lots of options.

Between those two choices, I'd personally go with the Buckmark.

From my past experiences with the Mosquito, I would never want to own one.

Since you already have a Mark III, why not get a 10/22 instead? Unless, you already own one...

Buckmark for sure!

I'm a Ruger fan but saying the Ruger beats the Buckmark in accuracy, reliability and availablilty of parts is a Ford vs Chevy argument.
Both are excellent with tons of support.

now I use blazer from big5 $20 for a brick.
But I can have enough guns, now I want another
cant decide between ruger mark 3, a 22/45, buckmark or
a rough rider.
when is enough guns I dont even know how many I own

But that defeats the point of owning a 22LR semi-auto - a gun should be able to use inexpensive ammo that is also available anywhere.

(Remington IMO lead bullets don't count - I havent' found anything they are great in except revolvers..)

CCI mini-mags are 10-15 cents a round and not all that easy to find! Federal 22LR in a box is extremely reliable and is 2-3 cents a round....

I have both (as well as a Ruger). Both look cool. Both run without problems and yes, I use CCI mini-mags in the Mosquito.
Since you have a P226 the Mosquito is a great warm-up gun. It is scaled down but everything is in the correct location as on the 226. It comes with two springs and I believe most reliability problems are due to using the wrong spring with your chosen ammo. It is also much easier to clean than the Buckmark. My problem with the Mosquito is that my thumb knuckle seems to engage the slide stop when I shoot. This is due to the gun being scaled down in size. I must be sure to lower my thumb to ensure this doesn't happen.
The Buckmark is more accurate, no question. It does have some problems with FTF using the wrong ammo. It doesn't seem to like waxy bullets. So I'd say it is also picky about what you feed it. The wax seems to create friction in the magazine so rounds don't get pushed up. It is also a pain to disassemble.
All in all, if I had to choose one, I'd probably pick the Buckmark.

I love my buckmark. It has been a great gun and very comfortable to shoot. Any feeding issues with mine have been cruddy ammo bulk pack with messed up bullets etc. I like ruger's as well and I think either a Ruger or a buckmark would serve you very well. A Ruger would have more aftermarket. As for a 22. Mosquito I have only heard of the reliability issues myself but have not had the chance to shoot one personally so I cannot comment on any facts.

I have a buckmark and a mosquito sport and I have been running comparisons between the 2 for accuracy and reliability.
The ammo I am using is:
Federal AUTO Match 22LR 40GR Solid
Remmington 22lr Thunderbolt
Winchester 40gr. Super-X SuperSpeed Copper Plated Round Nose
CCI Mini Mags

So far all 4 have feed both sporting pistols without issue, no cycling or ejection issues or other.
The sights on the Buckmark is one screaming bright green dot on the front post with an all black rear square notch rear.
Mosquito is a 3 dot system, to dim for my taste, i will upgrade.
Distances tested so far are 25 and 10 yards.
10 yards was standing off hand, 25 yards was prone with no support.

The Buckmark does not have a double action pull
The Mosquito does not have a rear adjustable Windage and Elevation sight.

Grouping at 25 yards was about 6 inches around for both sporting pistols. 10 yards was about 3 inches around.
Buckmark was high/left which was adjusted easily
Mosquito was low/right which was partially adjusted

The Mosquito breaksdown easy
The Buckmark can be testy on breakdown sometimes

i have a few K through the buckmark since i have had it longer
and about 500+ through the Mosquito
I like and will keep both. Neither has given me issues with reliability or ammo (Note on the ammo for the mosquito, I did buy High Velocity ammo because of the info I was given by Turners).
I find the accuracy best on the Buckmark but I am fine with the Mosquito's accuracy.

PennysDad - How would you rate them to the Ruger (any model..)

For some reason, I haven't picked up a 22lr semi yet, and most folks are telling me either
1. Ruger with a bull barrel
2. Consider one of the 22lr uppers for 9mm pistols (I have Berettas mostly)..
