    Ruger Mark I refurbishment

Greetings, asked about this in the gunsmith forum, crickets could be heard...

My buddy has a Mark I built in 1972, I believe it still has the original springs in it. It has not been cleaned in a long time, I fixed that for him.

I intend to replace all 4 springs, the recoil spring assembly is basically beating itself to death and is deforming.

My question is this: aside from the springs, are there any other parts that should be replaced during a refurbishment?

Probably not if gun is functioning correctly. Most semi problems are magazine related. Many all original Mark Is are still shooting.Ruger was really built on that gun.

If you are ordering parts get a new extractor from one of the aftermarket companies. Some extractors come with new spring and plunger. A firing pin is good insurance if the gun was shot a bunch.

Thank you for the responses, the gun shoot fine if little harsh on recoil (for a .22)

I didn't see excessive wear on the firing pin and the extractor looks clean with no dings on it.

The magazine is a bit finicky as it looks like the knob to hold the follower down is bent from shoving the magazine in and hitting the bottom of the grip. Can that be disassembled and "bent" back to a 90 degree angle?

I have him ordering another magazine already, just want to know if the magazine can also be rehabilitated with a replacement spring.

Most rimfire magazines are not rebuildable
I'm pretty sure that includes the MK1

Send it directly to Ruger and they will completely refurbish it for minimal, or no cost except shipping. They used to re-blue for something like $23 but those days are past, unfortunately.

I have a standard ruger that uses a rebuilt Mark1 magazine; so it is possible.
