    CMMG .22 upper

So, I finally managed to finish sighting in my new CMMG .22 upper.

    Wow...

The tighter group is from CCI Blazers, the other is using Federal bulk pack (Walmart). Shooting from a bench, iron sights, 25 yards.

Can't wait to get back out to the range!

I just sighted in mine. The gun definitely likes the high velocity over standard, all the stuff that works great in my bolt rifles just didn't shoot very well nor did the gun operate all that well. But today I used PMC high velocity and it shot very well, didn't malfunction once. I'm very happy with mine, whatever else I shoot I always bring the CMMG to the range broken down in a little 22" bag.

What function problems are you having? The CMMG is known for reliability.
Copper wash ammo is always best.
CCI Mini Mags work good for decent accuracy. Fed and Winchester bulk for plinking. Don't use Remnington anything.

One of the best things to do is buzz the chamber with a bore brush chucked in a drill. Put oil on the brush and run it in the chamber(not the rifling) for about 30 seconds. Smooths and polishes the bore.
Make sure the mags fit properly.

I have to say, I haven't had any problems in the first 700+ rounds through it. Only one failure to fire, and that looked like an ammo problem (there was a very nice dent from the firing pin).

        +1 on the Federal bulk.

Beside CCI mini mags, what are some of the other recommended high velocity brands for accuracy?

Dave, what is the primary effect of buzzing the chamber? Reliability, or does it benefit accuracy as well?

        Thanks,

        -Joe

Does the upper use the standard milspec hammer on the lower? Or did you have to buy a special narrower hammer for use with the .22?

Good shooting, CMMG 22 upper definitely on my wish list.

              @atto:
Nope, it's a standard lower, using a DPMS lower kit in it right now.

If I understand things correctly, the only hammer issue is that it needs to be one with a rounded top, as opposed to the squared-off variety.

American Eagle makes a copper washed HV round that runs well, but I dont find it to be crazy accurate (~1" @ 50yrds)... Then again, IMHO, I'm not the worlds greatest shooter either.

If you want accuracy there are some match ammo you can get.. I know Shadow has some experience with this.

As i understand it, buzzing the chamber assists with extraction...

Buzzing the chamber is simply to polish it and get the build up out.
I hasve a couple that like Federal Auto Match ammo. Not too expensive. But it's not copper wash and will gum up the chamber and feed ramp quicker.
I've had great groups with Eley EPS. It's expensive though.
Winchester is supposed to have a new "tactical" .22 LR round. (I hate saying .22LR and tactical in the same sentence) I would try it if I could find it.
Mini mags have been the most consistant high velocity that's easy to find for me.
