Difference between Marlin 60 and Marlin 795?

I have a Glenfield/Marlin 60 built in 1977 with a squirrel on the stock. It was the first gun I ever owned. Still shoot great. I took my daughter out to the range for the first time last Sunday and started her with that gun and a Ruger MkII. She enjoyed it and wants to do more. I'm going to sign her up for Appleseed but I need a gun for her as some of the drills won't go well with the 60.

Is the 795 just a removable magazine fed 60? Is it just as reliable and accurate? I know the 10/22 is the standard for the LTR but what are the pluses and minuses using the 795 as the LTR? I love my Marlin 60 and would like her to have something as reliable.

    Thanks,

Yep, same gun. One has a tube, one has a mag.

The difference between the 60 and 795 is the magazine. In fact if you take the 795 action out of the stock, you can see where the tube magazine would attach. Same barrel, same trigger, same receiver, etc.

As for using it as an LTR I assume you mean liberty training rifle for something like appleseed, yes it would be handier to be able to load mags away from the line as well as being able to include magazine changes as part of the drills.

Hmmm - I am in the process of rebuilding a Marlin 60. The receiver seems to be painted black, and is in need of some refinishing.

        Any thoughts?

            Thanks for the replies.

I think I am going to go with the 795, some tech-sights, and a GI sling.

Don't have one on hand, but the 795 seems significantly shorter than the 60, at least the older 60 I have. I've only handled the 795 in a store, but it definitely feels like a better choice for a kids gun to me.

FWIW I am not happy with the Tech sights I tried to put on my M 60. Screws stripped right off the bat. Don't seem to be well made to me.

OLder Marlin 60's have a longer barrel. Mine was built in 1989 and is about 1-2" longer than the ones put out today.

Mine 60 is definitely in that category of older. I have ordered my 795 through Gun Genie. Can't wait to get it out to the range.
