    volquartsen 10/22 trigger upgrade

Hi guys I have a Ruger 10/22 and I love the rifle but I can not stand the trigger. Factory triggers have a 8 to 9 lbs trigger pull. I wanted something a little lighter so I went online and looked at some trigger conversion kits but was shocked at the price. I want to lighted up the trigger but also spare the wallet. While searching I stumbled across this kit that claims to lighted the trigger to 2.5 to 3 lbs. Does anyone have any experience with this set up or similar? As always any input is greatly appreciated.

I've heard that the VQ hammer upgrade really helps the trigger

I have 2 and I think they're a good way of dealing with the trigger problem. Nice trigger and excellent customer service, should you ever need it.

VQ triggers are nice but it is certainly possible to do the trigger yourself and get results that are just as good or even better. Skip down to post #21. I wrote up these instructions a while back. If you do everything in this link and then throw a $25 dollar VQ hammer in, the results will be amazing. It will drop it down to a sub 3lb trigger that is crisp, light, and safe.

I have the whole trigger unit in one 10/22 and in another I replaced the hammer and sear. Just replacing the hammer made a vast improvement over stock.

Consider having your stock trigger worked on. Check out this site - - he does amazing work.

In the early 90s when all this 10-22 heavy barrel stuff began, I purchased the first Volquartsen kit I saw---fluted stainless heavy barrel, syn. stock, scope mount, trigger parts etc. I don't remember the exact parts I replaced, but I did it all following the instructions and they dropped right in---perfect trigger of just a hair over two pounds and completely reliable over all these years---I can recommend them! Gunsmith Dean Wilkerson (SFV) did my other 10-22 (old "pre-warning" Deluxe Sporter) way before drop-in parts were available and achieved a nice pull of right at three and a half pounds---perfect for a field rifle.

I put JUST the VQ hammer in my stock Ruger trigger group and it took the trigger pull down from about 8 or 9 pounds to 2.5.

                LOVE IT!

I put a VQ trigger with overtravel stop. It made rapid shooting much faster, but did nothing to improve the pull weight. Then I put in a VQ hammer, and the pull weight was reduced by about half. Some very very careful stoning on the factory sear (part that makes contact with the hammer) smoothed out the pull. Can't be happier.

I stoned my own 10/22 trigger group with automotive wet sandpaper. Started with 1000 grit, then 1500, and finished with 2000 on a flat surface. Still a heavy pull, but it just feels better and I only spent $5 doing it. I would suggest trying this before doing anything; its cheap and if you screw up (which you cant with such grits) you can always replace it with the expensive parts that you know will work.

It would be great if someone had suggestions for stoning the sear/disconnector for a lighter pull for the do it yourself gunsmith.

Buy it, I tried the Power full kit and just the VQ hammer and the VQ parts were uglier but a much better trigger pull..
