    Bullit Proof Vests

I got out to shoot with some friends today. We brought some old Vests as target practice. I was not supprised to find they would stop most any pistol rounds, and that most rifle rounds sailed right through. but I was suprised that a 17HMR passed right through! even when shot from a Ruger Single Six!

entry hole was a pinhole, exit was about 22cal. I was amaised!

entry is at the knife point

Pretty interesting, but no .22 LR tests?

Its OK, Ive had 50 some years to get used to it! being dislexic its probably not going to change any time soon.

as to the 22lr, it stopped them dead. also stopped 357, 44 mag, 45colt, and 45acp. 308, 223, 7.62x39, and 17HMR all passed right through. DR

Just curious, what's the rating, material and age of the vest?

Looks like the IIIA kevlar inserts from an IBA. I can't quite read the manufacture date, but looks like early 2000's.

Level IIIA from the IBA at that time as I recall wasn't rated for more than a 9mm FMJ at the time. That's what the Point Blank booklet said at least.

I would expect the 17HMR to pass through, between the pointed nose and the higher velocity why wouldn't it?

Pannels were made between 2000 and 2003 and there is no NIJ rating on them. I expected the 17 to come apart not penitrate like that. DR
