Mystery gun

hello, i am hoping someone can shed light on a rifle that i found in my attic many years ago. i dont know anything about it other than that it is rusted to no end. i will include pictures. it looks like the brand of the gun is called "famous" and the serial number appears to be 72600 XE. now on to the pictures.

It looks like an old Harrington and Richardson or New England Firearms single-shot shotgun. I don't think it is, but it's the same style. It is missing a fore-end that attaches to the barrel. When the fore-end is attached, it will hold the barrel in place. The barrel will swing open and closed on a bar in the receiver. The lever on the top is the barrel release.

No clue. I measured the barrel width and it was .25 - .30 inches wide.

Im just curious if im sitting on a nice piece of history or just junk. Im leaning towards the latter, but hey, who knows?!

You can't tell the caliber by looking at the muzzle. Take a picture of the chamber and the breechface. You should be able to tell if it's a rimfire or a center-fire.

I've been really wanting to make a double stack mag fed .25 acp based on the feather industries .22LR design.

This is what I was thinking. Looks like a top break shotgun.

Can you post pics down the muzzle (probably rusted but yea...) of from the breech? Also can you double check the top of the barrel, maybe some proofmarks of some kind under all that rust.

Obviously center fire. Can't really tell the measurements via my eye, but I am sticking with a the top break, single shot shotgun. I have not been able to anything by "famous" though. I will look through some books I have and see if anything comes up. Sorry I can't be of more help at this time.

Not sure how curious you are, but a cerrocast of the chamber and an some dial calipers should get you in the ballpark of what it was chambered in.

OK. How about a pic of the bore? Need to see the business end of the barrel. Looks like a .410 shotgun. Maybe the bore is rusted closed?

Did a little research seems to be a
Moniter was an H D Folsom house brand, most likely made by Crescent Firearms, unless it as proof marks, in which case it was made in Belgium.. Value is $35 to $125,depending on condition..
