10/22 dovetail - tap out sights which way?

Installing the nodak spud sights, need to punch out the front dovetail sight.

    Which direction does it go

Lets say I'm holding the gun from the back, buttstock closer to me, barrel (front sight) farther away.

Not sure if it matters, but I did mine right to left. They are tight, it took a BFH and a stout punch.

O ya if possible use a brass punch or a piece of brass round stock

IMHO, generally, when you remove anything from a firearm..it's left to right.

And just so you know, some of them are pretty loose, and some of them are a royal pain to get moving. Just luck of the draw.

When I check with Henry CS they said it did not matter which way when removing the sight from my Big Boy. I imagine it would be the same for all. I did soak the dovetail with Kroil for several hours and was suprised how easy it was to remove. Only about 10 light taps.
