This is a new one for me.
While out shooting with a group of friends it became my H&R Sportsman's turn in the line up. I had 500 rounds of brand new CCI Mini Mags and let each of my friends put a few cylinders down range. My friend Dave had an injured hand and when it was his turn to shoot I assisted him reloading while he held the revolver. One thing about the Sportsman is that it ejects all 9 spent cases for you at one time. I pulled out 9 fresh rounds and began to load the cylinder. Because of the way Dave was holding the revolver I would lean the bullet on the edge of the cylinder's charge hole then slide it in. This is important because we both watched 9 rounds with bright copper jackets go into each of the 9 charge holes of the cylinder.
In 30 years of shooting I've never had a FTF with CCI Mini Mags or Stingers.
Dave fired 6 rounds and then on the 7th there was a silent fall of the hammer, the 8th round went off fine and then the 9th was just the sound of the hammer falling as well. I had Dave point the muzzle at the target for one minute and then hand me the Sportsman.
A few things were going through my mind, this was an old revolver and I wanted to see how hard the FTFs were struck by the firing pin, I planned on removing the FTFs and putting them in different charge holes to see if they would fire and finally, maybe I had my first two bad rounds of CCI.
All four of us stood over the Sportsman I as broke the action and caught the cases in my hand.... 9 spent cases. There was no shinny copper bullets left in the 7th and 9th cases. There was no lead stuck in the barrel. How did a bullet exit the barrel and not make a sound? Any sound?
All four of us heard and saw the same thing and for those of you thinking it.... I don't drink before or during shooting. The targets were clay pigeons with a dirt backstop so I couldn't confirm 9 holes in a target.
Thought I'd share as I've never heard of anything like that. Any ideas or similar experiences?
