Rookie move, but I'm all excited to try out our new CMMG dedicated .22 at the range with the magpul flip up sights.

Here is a hint to what's wrong with the picture, we get through the first mag and all the shots are about 6 feet high.

Any suggestions on front flip up sights? I looked at a riser, but it's about 50 bucks Would rather replace the knock off 20 dollar magpul flip ups and get a nice pair of flip up sights.

midwayusa has about a million gas-block height flip-up sights, how much are you looking to spend?

the front sight is backwards, it only looks weird, but should works, however, the real problem is ... it mounted too low, you will hit very high on the target, that front sight is for mounting on rail, not that low profile gas block. you can try the UTG flip up front sight, i think is around $20 on amazon.....

I seen a guy at Lytle creek with both magpul sights backwards. I tried to help him out and he barked at me told me I was wrong. Thats how Ammo brothers told him how to set it up. I laughed and moved on.

The front sight is on backwards but that isn't the issue. Looks like you have the Sierra model which has the standard, railed gas block which is lower than the receiver.
The M4 LEP has a railed gas block that is receiver height.
You can buy a gas block front sight or you can replace the gas block with a
.750 receiver height gas block.

Not enough heat get to the gas block in a .22LR so no worries on the sight melting.

CMMG does not have them on the web sight but if you call, you can get one.
Or if you can find one cheaper somewhere. You can use a short piece of gas tube to hold your hand guard cap in place.

As always the calguns community is very observant. Yes the front sight is on backwards (It was the only way it would fit when folded down). That should have been my first sign that something was wrong.

While at the range my uncle informs me that the upper rail and the sight rail are not in line. Dooohhhh. So now I have a few options:

1. get a different gas block to fit my current front sight.

2. get a riser to fit on current gas block to use my current front sight.

3. Get a different front sight to fit my current gas block (now I would have non matching back up sights).

4. Scrap the back up sights all together.

5. get a matching front and rear flip up sights that fit on my current gas block.

I'm leaning toward option 5. I'd like to go with that option for the lightest and least expensive as possible.

Your thoughts?

id scrap that back up sights all together. thats what i did. i had the same ones i put them on my ar after one trip to the range. i have a barska red dot on my .22 and thats plenty since i only use it for plinking. i dont think back up sights are fun on a plinker but thats just my opinion on it

Not a bad plan. And by far the least expensive. Big 5 has a barska on sale now. The one that kind of looks like an ACOG. If I don't like my Aimpoint knock off red dot I might just have to pick one of those up.

Its very hard to tell, but it looks like it may have a bullet button. If so, that's what is wrong with it

Option 6

So I was thinking about option 6. Ditch the gas block all together and mount a free float tube. I'm down to JP or YHM for the tube. Now if I go with option 6, I need to decide on the length. Carbine, Mid, or rifle.

One advantage is that I would not need to worry about aligning the gas tube holes on the jam and barrel nuts.

I took some mock pictures (apologizes for poor picture quality).

Thats because he got the upper with the Low Profile GB and not the receiver height GB...


In any case... Buy an Airsoft raiser... I've seen them for less than $10... OR buy a sight designed for a Low Profile GB...



If it were me though... I would put a free float tube on it... Ditch the gas block completely... I would personally put a 11" Troy TRX Extreme on it... But that's just me.

Remember... You can run that gun without a gas block... There is NO gas port on the barrel so you can strip it all off...
