    Volquartsen 10/22 target hammer help

I just got the target hammer with bushings kit, and I'm installing it on my newer 10/22 with the polymer trigger housing.

The installation is really straightforward except for a couple things.

One issue I'm having is the kit says it includes the trigger plunger spring.
Looking at the 10/22 schematic this is the spring (B40) that attaches to the little pin that sits behind the trigger. The spring that came in the kit is way smaller than the stock trigger plunger spring. Infact, it looks way more comparable to the sear spring (B-24) in size. Is this a typo in the instructions or does volquartsen really want me to replace the trigger plunger spring with the little dinky spring they included in their kit? It just looks way too small for that function and the stock trigger plunger spring is actually held on with fine safety wire, too.

There is also a little more side to side wobble in the target hammer than with my stock hammer. The stock hammer is .501 wide (it has no bushings), while the Volquartsen is only .490 wide with the bushings and both included shims. Just for reference the trigger group pocket is .527 wide. If I find some more washers to tighten it up will it help my trigger feel at all?

The last thing is the issue of the hammer spring. I've read on some other forums where people have kept the stock spring on. What are the pros and cons of this?

    Thanks!

The hammer shims should not have much effect on trigger pull weight they are used to have a more consistent pull. It sets the sear/hammer relationship the same each time if the parts don't move side to side in relation to each other.
The trigger plunger spring can be smaller, in stock form it is a part of trigger pull weight and reset. The one I got with my Power Custom kit was small. As long as the trigger resets it is enough less is better.
I would go with the lighter hammer spring, unless you suffer misfires. How hard the hammer bears on the sear will make a difference in trigger pull.

Makes sense... more consistent sounds good.

Anyway. I just kept the stock trigger plunger spring on. I think I'm happy enough with it for now. Using my unscientific berkley fish scale trigger pull guage it started off around 9lbs now it's around 5 or so.

Going to test it out tomorow. If I don't get any misfires I will have to say this was definitely worth the cash and the wait since it was on backorder.
