    Home Defence

Is there a 22 rifle that could ever be used for home defence?
An ammo that would be considered lethal?
Considering a home surrounded by 40 acres.

      Thanks for the forum.
      I have a MB 930SPX and a MB 500.
I was just considering stopping someone before they get to the front door.
I just finished reading a book called The Patriot.
It had a lot of good things to say about the benefits of 22's.

        not this ****e again

ANY .22lr rifle can be used in home defense- from single shot to full auto
        Aguila Super Colbri

my go to home defense rifle is a hot pink Cricket single shot loaded with Aguila Super Colbri I only shoot for the eyes

Why on earth would you choose a rimfire?
        There are absolutely ZERO reasons

You already have good home defense guns
I would get some good low recoiling buckshot for inside the house

O ya dont go shooting people outside the house-bad idea

It's hearsay, but I heard that the USMC considers a .22LR lethal out to 600M. If I were to use one for HD, it would need to be something tactical like a Sig522, or an MP22, and have very large capacity magazines.

However, the biggest thing I would be worried about using a rifle for HD is over penetration.

You're better off just using slugs in those shotguns (preferably in the 930 SPX) and using that for your long distance shooting over 40 acres.

For me, I'm much more accurate with a shotgun shooting slugs at over 50 yards using ghost ring sights, than I am with my 15-22 and iron sights. Not to mention the amount of damage you give with a 12g slug compared to a .22LR round.

                It's real simple...
Hit in the head, a 22 can be anything from instant, to eventually, lethal.
I've personally killed deer and antelope with a 22LR from a rifle. Head shot is a dead drop, lung shot is about a 50 yard to drop shot. I know the lethality of the round.
The bottom line is what are you most likely to hit consistently with?
A hit with a 22 is far better than a miss with a cannon.
And consider this: My 10 year old Grandson could make a stand with any of my 22's.
But if a shotgun was his only choice, he'd likely die trying to run away.
Even if scared to crapping pants stage, 2 out of 5 - 22's in the face is most likely going to change somebodies mind.
Nobody is going to stop and rationalize what is being shot at them, only that something IS shooting at them. And unless out of their mind, they are going to seek cover or run away.
I am very confident I could easily stop a human with any of my 22's, pistol or rifle.
That said, my HD gun is a sawed off 12 gauge with what I call "Kill loads" I've made myself. A combination of shot and mini balls. Meant to kill in one shot.
If I was running for my life from civil uprising, I'd grab one or two of my 22's and some 555 bulk packs of ammo and bug out. I defy you to carry 1110 rounds of any other ammo for any other firearm over great distances, or for weeks or months.
If you don't kill it, it will kill you.
A 22 is arguably the best survival caliber around. But like anything, it relies on you shooting straight.

I took the 22lr to hunt in Wisconsin one time, we stayed out in the woods for 1 week straight.....rainy and humid conditions. If it wasnt raining, it was humid...and I mean, H.U.M.I.D (HOLY, UNFORGIVING, MOTHER*, INFIDEL, DAMN!)...anyways, first and second day all the 22 I had was fine, 3rd I had a lot of FTF, 4th, most rounds were FTF. If you have to bring 22 as BOB, make sure its dry!!

dub whatever you want...it's still "OK" to select a .22 lr for HD (Home Defense)

I'd wager 99.9% of folks out there would give their eye teeth to have a .22 when needed; think about an ACCURATE hailstorm, using the "Shoot to the center of mass" technique, of 40 grain bullets traveling at 1250 fps from a 10/22 at 21 ft...(the 'safety zone' now recognized by FBI and LE) draw your own conclusion of the results...

the fact of the matter is, that if a person is really concerned about SD/HD with a firearm, they will train with the arm of their choice...most people can afford to buy a brick of .22, regularly, and 'practice' and get familiar with their firearm...centerfire handgun ammo is NOT cheap as you all know.

i use 1250 fps as an example as it's somewhere in the middle of the speeds available in 22lr; there is ammo that is rated at 1750 fps in .22lr (Aguila 30 gr super max plated)

you do the math...in the end, it's YOUR choice.

i, personally, have numerous, centerfire, big bore, firearms available for SD/HD and i would not hesitate to use a .22 lr rifle/carbine if need be...

Why bother with .22lr, just get a big hammer and a long nail. If you don't scare intruder off, he'll die from laughter.
