Could you defend your life with a 22lr

I'm just wondering. If it came down to it and lets say someone breaks into my home. Is using my 22 for self defense even worth a try? Or, would I just be better off grabbing a baseball bat?

I would have no problem defending myself with a .22lr. It is a much better option than a stabbing tool or blunt object in my opinion.

Definitely, even if it's a small caliber, it's still dangerous if you aim for lethal areas. You'd have to aim at the upper body because I don't think shooting them in the leg or foot will do much stopping.

Any gun is better than no gun at all.

The reason people recommend that you don't use 22lr to defend your life is because there are many better options, not because it won't work. 22lr has been used to stop thousands of people, and a lot of them have died from it.

IMO, if the only gun you have to defend yourself is a 22lr, and someone tries to kill you, you use it to defend yourself. If, however, you were getting ready to buy a pistol for home defense and you asked if you should choose 22lr vs something bigger/better like 9mm/40S&W/45ACP then of course I would not suggest 22lr, but by no means is the little 22 useless in a fight.

Maybe if it were an AR with rimfire conversion and 26-round magazines loaded with CCI Mini-Mags.

Wait, those things jam a lot. Never mind.

I prefer blowgun to the eye ball or even better a SPORK

but yes any gun is better than no gun
but you can pick up an inexpensive centerfire for less than $300
used pistol or shotgun would be a much much better choice

I would HIGHLY suggest looking into a more capable firearm

yes, a .22 would put down a bad guy right quick. i think all the mob hit men used .22's because once the round hit a human head it would bounce around in the skull shreading the brain.

of course it will put down a human
Ive been told its pretty common to put pigs down with a .22lr to head

these are more or less controlled situations

You have to think of people entering your house as
300lbs drugged out of their mind and wanting to rape your wife

Do you still want to use a .22lr?
You figure a .22lr has 40gr of lead and 200ft lbs of muzzle energy

just because something can doesnt mean it should
Ya sure a lifted Jeep Wrangler can go 100mph doesnt mean it should

Pop the femoral artery (inside of the thigh) and they're dead almost as quickly as a heart shot, faster than a lung shot.

Going off of your question, I would say yes. I would rather have a 22, that a bat.

Now I am NOT saying that I would grab my AR-22 before I would grab my Mossberg 500, but that was not your question.

I know I can defend myself and get away from someone with a bat, but if that same person had a gun(regardless of cal.) I would be shot.

Police ID slain home invasion suspect

"He forced her into her bedroom," Ritter said. "Once inside the bedroom, she retrieved a .22-caliber pistol and shot him several times." Ritter characterized the attack as an attempted sexual assault.

The suspect ran outside the house and collapsed. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died."

Here is a site where they shot ballistic gelatin with many different 22lr rounds and a few different guns. I am supprised at the penetration of some of these.

.22 lr has more kills to its name then any other caliber.

If you need to use a .22LR gun for HD..... aim high.
